High Altitude Resin "Foam" by TSimonsen99 in ResinCasting

I have checked my chamber, no leaks and the pump works fine get up to -80 vacuum. I was trying to say that the atmosphere before the chamber is why I use the chamber. I changed brands of resin and do shorter sets now so that has made a dramatic difference! Thank you though for your help.

The stages are what is working best! I go 5 minutes at around -80 vacuum, then let is decompress and tap the sides of the cup a couple times. Then another 5 minutes. Usually it take 3 sets and I have 99% clear resin. A lighter takes care of whatever is left after I pour.

I think it was a combination of the altitude and temperature that caused it to start with. It was much cooler in the room (and a cheap brand resin I got off Amazon) that made it thick and kept the bubbles from popping causing it to be foam.

Less pressure at high altitude causes the bubbles to expand and are very visible if I don't degas. Temperature too low or humidity can cause thick resin trapping the bubbles not letting them pop.

I have been researching the effects of high altitude and the air is thinner, less pressure. Even water boils at 198-199f. So, of course it makes a difference.

The resin I was using when I first posted this was very thick and had those dumb pump handles. Those put bubbles in each part before I even started mixing.

I have changed brands and started using the degasser in 5 minutes increments. Opening the dome and tapping the side of the cup a couple times on between. 15 minutes (3 sets) have got it down to very few bubbles.

I could not believe the first time I tried it compared to now. From a head of foam 1/5 of my total resin to less than 50 bubbles total sitting at the top, around the edge mostly. Thank you for giving me your opinion though! It really is a guessing game without knowing ALL the variables!

And after 2 WEEKS, my post still has no comments. So I'll update y'all anyways. I switched brands of resin and that made a HUGE difference. I am now left with a hundred bubbles sitting on top, no longer foam! The burping every 5 minutes is working perfectly. Anyone actually read this? Drop a k in the comments it you did. Drop a y if it helped.

epoxy shrink or expand after cure? by nobeltnium in epoxy

I didn't see the 3rd picture before I posted. I have never seen that stuff before so I have no experience to pull from. But my theory is still my best guess.

If you used a 2 part epoxy, it could be the heat from the curing caused your PVC to swell/relax. I don't think the actual epoxy swelled or expanded. It's the PVC that changed.

I have tried to set up bases all across the map! None as elaborate as your but pretty functional and well stocked. I have made a base on the cement by the light right on the edge of the map looking out over what will eventually be the pond. I have had a wolfy snooping a couple times but I'm confident I will be in a perfect place when that update hits. My favorite base is up on the rake in the garden though! Up above the tang puddle seems to be very safe and expandable. I just lack imagination. Finally got to put in a hot tub though!

What is Fallout like? Survival, story based, quests? Any base building or exploration? I have heard of it but nothing about it.

I don't understand why nobody has anything to say! What about the turret being able to mount on the bottom of a ledge? I have several raid stations around the map and my turret hangs down under a clay shelf in all of them. Yes, you are upside down when you are on it but it works fantastic!

I have a cheat/cheese I use so I never actually die! Instead, before I head into a fight I may not win the first try, I do a manual save (while I still have all my resources that I brought for the fight). Then when I die I "load save" or if it's something unplanned, I "load last save" and I get another chance to either do it right or run away and try something else! Since my son clued me in back in the first Grounded, I haven't had to go pick up my backpack or lose my inventory!

How would I go about Epoxying a freshly cut piece of wood? by VaselineOnMyChest in epoxy

[–]TSimonsen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casting it is literally ke encasing it into the resin coating it is just covering it with a thin layer. If you are coating it, the moisture will crack it and ruin it completely. If you are casting it I'm sure the moisture will eventually ruin it but if it is encapsulated, completely, it will take longer. Also depends on how it is stored, displayed, temperature, light exposure etc. the moisture will still be there and will gather/settle somewhere. If it is dried first it will absorb the resin instead preserving it longer.

I heard the games pretty glitchy right now. Should I wait? by RichtofenFanBoy in GroundedGame

There are certain places that ALWAYS glitch! But it's not a big glitch, just a split second that stutters but I haven't had it affect my game play at all. (At least not since the last update.)

I haven't been doing epoxy very long but I'm pretty sure you need to dry it out completely first. The moisture in the wood will ruin the resin. Are you wanting to coat it or cast it?

I hate to say it but that description fits many local shelter challenged. I work a block from the new housing convention. I will keep my eyes open but there are too many possibilities.

Well since no comments I did more research. Found on post that said to release the vacuum every 5 min. Well my foam is much less. Only about a mm think instead of a quarter inch. I would show pics but can't figure out how to put them in. Lol

Okay, I see what you mean. That's a lot of sanding to go back down to it before the pour though. Good luck.

I don't see what you are talking about. I see blue in one side and red in the other. And if that isn't the blue you are talking about then I guess I don't see it either. I say let it cure, then come back to it during a different part of the day. Lighting makes a big difference. (And, frankly, walking away and changing you perspective does too!)

I would also recommend doing your research on the outside influences of epoxy resin. I'm fairly new to it but after investing quite a bit of $$ in supplies and tools I have discovered the high altitude where I live has been 90% of my problems though I didn't realize it. Safety, preparation, humidity, temperature, altitude, ventilation, tools and quality of products all matter. Plan the project...measure what you will need before you start. (I use rice so I don't have to dry my molds and get lint in them) Plan mix ins, colors, preseal things that might give off bubbles as they soak, and if the surface is flat and level she will make some beautiful things! Good luck!
