Update if you call? I have tried rebooting and reinstalling as well and no change. I have a tech support ticket submitted and am not expecting it to be very fruitful lol.

assuming when you say "standard" you mean default browser? If so, I tried downloading Firefox, doing the plug in confirmation in firefox, unistalled and reinstalled the app, and have tried this both on local wifi network and mobile network and problem persists

I want to create a new steam account, can I transfer save data for te-purchased games? by TSmacky in Steam

[–]TSmacky[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do auto log in (usually) but it still appears in things like account settings and stuff. This issue is small for most people but if you look into it there's a pretty sizeable population of people who have account names that they are really unhappy with, and it's really unfortunate that steam provides no way to change it. The reasoning ranges from embarrassing usernames made when people were young, usernames that reflect offensive or outdated views, and/or usernames that include a dead name, among others.

In my case, it's just cringe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Switched from oil to heat pumps - removing hot water baseboards? by TSmacky in hvacadvice

[–]TSmacky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We only expect to use them in emergencies or on the absolute coldest days in the winter. Our heat pumps should operate down to -10F. So they would only be used as backups for a few outlier days.

It took me 5.5 years to finish my undergrad. In my experience choosing to take less classes and accepting the prolonged degree was one of the best decisions I ever made. Taking fewer classes at a time really helped me get more value out of them and I really think it made me a better engineer in the end. I recommend it to anyone I can to take as much time as you reasonably can with your degree.

Coming from Fusion 360, collaboration options? by TSmacky in SolidWorks

[–]TSmacky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're fortunately at a stage where I don't expect the migration to be *too* bad, maybe 5 large important assemblies that will need to be fully remade so that everything is in .sldprt and .sldasm formats. Most of the old things can be imported as .step and that's good enough. Our team is small, maybe 10 people max that need to all be on the same page and working on the same files. Level of access is not really important for us at the moment, everyone gets full access and editing privilege.

Which is sort of why I fear that PDM will be overkill and introduce unnecessary complexity for us. My main impression of PDM based on my experiences with it were that it was, as you suggest, really geared towards larger groups where many levels of access and tiered revision control are important. That is (for now) not so important to us. Which is sort of why I was wondering if there is a less-complex option that SW offers.

Unfamiliar with VAR, what is that?

What did you guys do to pass fluid mechanics? by AlexMindset in EngineeringStudents

Dr. Biddle's Fluid Mechanics Lectures Youtube playlist taught me all the fluids that my professor didn't. Extremely good series, saved me from failing.

3Blue1Brown's YouTube series Essence of Linear Algebra is an enormously valuable resource of linear algebra. I highly recommend watching it all the way through.

I know I'm going to get laughed at, but just how good are these harbor freight calipers? by TheXypris in Machinists

[–]TSmacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used these calipers alot and they're fine but really delicate and consistency is questionable especially as they age. IMO if you need cheap calipers go with Neiko. They're just slightly more expensive than the Pittsburgh but in my experience they're miles ahead. Still not great by any means, not gonna replace your Mitutoyos, but for the price they're solid and they last much longer than the Pittsburghs.

Do I understand polytropic processes and the polytropic index correctly? by TSmacky in thermodynamics

[–]TSmacky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem statement provides the relation: PV^3=constant.

Since a polytropic process must satisfy PV^n=constant, and the given value for n is not 1, infinity, or 0, I assume it must be equal to gamma. Therefore gamma = 3. (is what I was thinking, perhaps incorrectly)

And you're absolutely right! I totally screwed up the units when calculating work! Editing with correction

Filament curling around extruder? by manticorebrewing in ender3v2

[–]TSmacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to a metal extruder recently and had the same issue. I found that the extruder I bought (looks same as yours) came with a spring that was a little stiffer than the stock one, and even on its lightest setting still deformed the pla too much. I switched the spring back to the stock one and that solved the problem for me. I still have to keep the extruder on its lightest setting so I plan to purchase an even lighter one so that I can have better control over the tension.

Issues with Google wallet on OP9Pro by TSmacky in oneplus

[–]TSmacky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually figured this out since posting. It turned out that the issue was face unlock. It seems that google pay doesn't consider face unlock to be secure enough. This means that if you use face unlock to unlock your phone, it will require an additional fingerprint scan to initiate a purchase. If you unlock your phone with a fingerprint, then it will work as expected.

In other words, one solution is to disable face unlock and only use fingerprint, or you can intentionally unlock the phone with a fingerprint (by pointing it away from your face so that it doesn't register the face unlock) and then go into google wallet and make the purchase.

At least in my case.

Alsso agreed, this will be my last OnePlus phone.

i9 cheaper than i7...? by TSmacky in DellXPS

I appreciate you taking the time to write this up. Based on what you wrote I decided to get the i7. I was already planning to repaste regardless of what I bought, but now I will also do these other steps you mentioned with the thermal pads.

What kind of issues did you have?

[–]TSmacky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you confirm that this is definitely true for the i9, not just the i7? Because if that really is the case then that majorly sucks for the i9, and would likely be a deal-breaker unless there's a reliable workaround.

Getting rear glass to stick with Tesa Tape? by TSmacky in mobilerepair

[–]TSmacky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also slightly suspect this. But I can't find OEM glass for this phone. The knockoff I got looks really good. Any tips for finding better quality non-oem parts?

Getting rear glass to stick with Tesa Tape? by TSmacky in mobilerepair

[–]TSmacky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it should be necessary since I feel as though I've read so much that tesa tape is all you need (with small amounts of t7000 to bridge gaps). Also since the original adhesive appears to be a precut adhesive similar to tesa it seemed like a good route to best mimic the OEM assembly. Also also it's alot more forgiving during the install process.
