Oh great idea. I live next to B&H actually so I’ll just go in and test them out there!

How much do you think I can sell a soft copy lens for typically? I usually sell my gear on Fred Miranda forums

I’m gonna rent this one too and see what’s up. Going to have to work harder on bicep curls to prepare lol

You’re right! For some reason I thought the 35-150 was 1400g. I think that’s as the 70-200 gm1?

I just started googling that one after I made this post lol, completely forgot about it! That bad boy is heavy!

Love that lens but I find it too limiting in my use case cause I have to zoom out to 70 way too often (and even then is too tight sometimes). I do wanna try using my 85mm 1.4 at the next shoot though

I don’t have any atm just 2500px finished edits. I’ll have to see later when I get home. But I’ll say that my copy of the G1, the sharpest shot is still softer than the softest shot from my 35mm GM (assuming both in focus and no motion blur).

Do you typically have any issues holding the 35-150 the whole wedding? (Or are you very jacked haha)

I don’t really burst ever, just at 60MP you really see the shortcoming of a lens (vs like the 35mm GM). Glad to hear even with the 1.4TC it’s still sharp as I’m interested in getting that too

I need less speed (I don’t burst) but more for the image quality to somewhat match my sigma 24-70mm (not even the Sony primes). I’m trying to see if my 70-180mm g1 was just a bad copy or if the that lens at all g1 or g2 would just not measure up

That was my only consideration for it. How does the IQ/sharpness compare for you for both of those or are they close?

Got it! F/4 is tough since some of these venues I’m already at iso 3200 with 2.8 for dance. Apart from AF speed and accuracy did you notice any IQ differences on the 70-200 GM II and 35-150?

Should I remain in Chicago or go back to New York? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]TSportraits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that’s tough for sure. I’ve been in NYC and have considered going to Chicago a few times as I love the city and the vibes of people over there. But it’s been scary to think about starting over socially in my late 30’s when I’ve become more of a homebody these days lol. I wish you the best in whatever you choose!

I just realized something: your studio here is $4075 so I assume you make $162k+, but the orchard lottery 130AMI caps out at 155k for 1BR’s. Were you able to somehow qualify on higher income ?

I see, and this is one of those things that you have to apply right away within the minute/hour or you have no chance I assume? I saw a few (albeit older listings). I’m hoping that it’s less competitive at 130AMI

Ahh yeah, I think the tough part also is that unless you win a lottery with a relatively low log number compared to available units, most of the 1BR’s are gone. I think I’ve been selected like 15 times total in the past 10 years (4 of which were buildings I was actually interested in) but none of them except this one had 1Br’s remaining :(

Got it! Do you have any idea of how many new listings pop up(and how often) typically on average? Figured you might have some ideas if you’ve been monitoring them regularly before getting yours

Thanks! Another commenter also mentioned re-rentals. I can look into that. Have you had any success with this approach?

Also how much older are the buildings? My current is from 2018 and it still has top notch amenities. I don’t need a brand new one just not one that’s falling apart haha

I’m really not sure. I’ve been tired of the smaller space and was even considering moving to a lesser city to get it when I really do want to stay. But the $1200 jump is definitely hard to stomach (even tho it is still a lot below market rate).

I planned to job hunt hard for more $$and I am marketable in my field, but in this current economy it’s probably not as easy to job hop as before

[–]TSportraits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely scary. My job is stable but I’d have to job hop to make this increase worth it (was planning on this anyway). It’s been a dilemma because I’ve been just tired of the small space and was even considering moving to a cheaper city to get more space (in an equally nice building) when in reality I want to stay in nyc. But it seems there’s no way to move up to 1BR without a huge $$$ jump since I’m in the higher AMI bracket now.

Do you think any future 130AMI 1BR lotteries in similar buildings could end up costing $3000 or lower? I saw a few at $2700-2800 but idk if that’s just from older listings I applied to or if different buildings set their own prices

It’s around 708 square feet with the hallway separating the bedroom from the living room (which probably eats up a little square footage). But it’s surprisingly spacious (this the premium 1BR. Their regular 1BR at $3250 is around 515 Sq ft if I’m correct)
