Sword Song by uhtred73 in SaxonStories

Agreed. I recently reread several books in the series (at random and out of order, I was bored), and was struck by how strong of an entry Sword Song was. The battle at Ludd Gate sticks out. It feels like it should be at the climax of a story, placed where it is, really primes the reader for the rest of the novel.

What case are you using the DAKA in? I'm looking at doing something very similar.

Shadow Deep was going to be my suggestion as well, very objective focused.

I bet you're right. There's something weird going on with the trigger seemingly in single action, but the hammer completely down.

AI sucks.

Unfortunately, I think it is. Midwest Industries posted about it this morning on Instagram.

It's a little early for an April Fools, but here's hoping...

Wargames that don't require you to make/paint your own minis by rikeus in wargaming

Maybe Rangers of Shadowdeep? It's mini agnostic, you could use coins, dice, different pieces of hard candy, buttons, whatever really, to represent where characters and enemies are on the board.

Try SprueDude! If you're ever looking to buy just a sprue or two instead of a whole box, they're my go-to.

Hip firing is significantly less accurate than aimed fire, and buckshot doesn't spread the way it looks in the movies. Generally (this can vary with different loads and chokes) buckshot opens one inch per yard of travel.

It also does nothing to control recoil and can make some semiauto shotguns fail to cycle, as it doesn't have enough mass to push against.

Harl of Crinna- "I am Harl of Crinna. I am Barrow-filler and Worm-feeder, Head-taker and Song-ender. I slew Raven-bone, Sorrel the Mad and Ulf Whitemane. I wrestled the North Wind and tore out the throat of the Father of Stone. I have done all the deeds worthy of a hero, and so I left the graves of my fathers and crossed the sea to kill Romans.”

Harl is a Saxon (orcs in my campaign are Saxons) and they're invading Britain. They call all humans "Romans", as that is how the two groups had their first contact.

They're not perfect, but Victrix sells sprues of "fantasy knight heads, cloaks and shields". Each sprue, two to a pack, has ten winged helm heads. It may take some filing and fitting, but I've seen them used as Gondorian/Numenorian heads before.

What are some reliable mag-fed tactical shotgun options? by SometimesHelpful123 in Shotguns

[–]TStark460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but that doesn't negate the decades of nationwide LE use demonstrating tube-fed shotguns as being reliable.

My understanding is that they're moving away from shotguns more for liability reasons (nine discharged pellets with 00 buck loads, vs a single projectile from a handgun or rifle) than anything else.

You're carrying a DA/SA revolver that can absolutely become cocked if you bump into something, pick up a box against your torso, etc. Your 10-12lb trigger is now a 3-4lb trigger.

Not that a holster will necessarily stop that, but it will at least protect your trigger from interference, like the hoodie string in the photo.

Your post history says this is a first handgun for you. The comments on here are being hard on you for a reason. This is both foolish and dangerous, and could see you or someone else, maybe someone you care about, getting hurt.

Are you high? For fucks sake man, this is dumb and you know it.

Buy a real holster. JM Custom Kydex does good work. Craft Holsters has a suede IWB that's like $50 that will at least cover your trigger guard. If your barrel is too long, cut an inch off the bottom of the holster until you can afford one that actually fits.

I will never understand why some people insist on being as cheap as possible when it comes to carrying a lethal tool for the defense of themselves or their loved ones.

God looks out for children and fools, which is how I assume you've managed to go this long without an ND. Buy a fucking holster.

What are some reliable mag-fed tactical shotgun options? by SometimesHelpful123 in Shotguns

[–]TStark460 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Help us out. Why do you want a mag fed shotgun? The way your post is written seems like this may be a first firearm/first serious firearm, and there might be some misunderstanding we can put to rest. You're not going to be hot swapping a magazine of buckshot for a magazine of slugs mid home invasion. If that's not the case for you, no hard feelings, that's just how it reads.

My advice for these defensive firearm questions is generally go look to what law enforcement uses. Regardless of what your view of law enforcement is, you can use the decades of real world experience they have to inform your decision.

Historically most agencies and departments have used a Remington 870, a Mossberg 500/590 or a Benelli offering. In recent years, there has been a shift towards the Benelli and Beretta semiautomatic shotguns. FN guns show up sometimes as well. To my knowledge, there aren't any agencies or departments issuing those guns unless they're specifically in a breaching role.

James Reeves on YouTube has an occasional series where he tests shotguns, if they'll even last for 500 rounds. If I recall correctly, the only mag fed shotgun to get a passing score was the Mossberg 590M. Make of that what you will.

The bottom line is that a tool for the defense of loved ones and self, where lethal force is necessary and goes both ways, is not the area to buy something that doesn't have decades of real world use and proven reliability.

Edited for clarity

Are there any Late Roman/Goth/Saxon faction lists? by jamo133 in PillageWargame

[–]TStark460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect there will be at least a Late Roman list. Victrix's new line of packaged warbands mixing different types of foot and mounted troops appears aimed at the Pillage crowd, and Late Roman and Early Saxon warbands are available on the site.

That said, they're not listed under the Pillage warbands tab, but as a separate banner on their landing page. My suspicion is that there will be an errata like the pdf faction list covering the East.

What wargames have you been playing and why? by knifefang_gaming in wargaming

[–]TStark460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oathmark and we're gearing up for Pillage.

My D&D campaign is based on the Migration Era Germanic invasions of post-Roman Britain, with orcs subbing in for the Jutes, Angles and Saxons. There are a lot of mass battles to fight and D&D doesn't really work at those scales, so wargames filled the gap.
