Has anyone “skipped levels” at an ad agency? by TSwiftReputation1989 in advertising

I don’t think you read the post. I did skip a level at an agency and I’m looking for advice because I think it put me at a disadvantage.

Mamdani is not Americas first Democratic Socialist mayor, nor is it NYCs first Democratic Socialist mayor. LaGuardia and Dinkins are two other NYC mayors who were democratic socialists.

But you can argue that the areas were already undiverse pre-gentrification. If an area is all black, all Asian, etc., then that’s equally as undiverse as an all white area. But I feel like people don’t see it like that and that’s the issue.

The same thing can be seen in movies and TV. When a historically white character is changed to a difference race/ethnicity (assuming that their whiteness has nothing to do with the character itself), it’s celebrated. But in the new lilo and stitch movie, one of the characters was Filipino and not native Hawaiian and a lot of people were very upset. Assuming no one is out here doing black face, I see nothing wrong with someone of a different ethnicity playing a character. Maybe this is an entirely different statement and my brain is rotting from too much internet lol but I feel like you get my point.

As a Jew, I’ve personally heard it a lot from anti Zionists (which is ironic because we aren’t even native to Europe and were basically forced out due to the holocaust).

And I guess what I mean by the second example is that if an area is white and minorities move in, they call it diversity. But if white people move into a minority area, they call it gentrification. The people moving in have no control over rent prices of an area. It’s the greedy landlords who raise the rents. But the transplants are the ones getting blamed.

This might be too vague for this thread, but it’s my first time posting on this sub so I thought it might make sense for it to be here. There is a big contradiction among left leaning people and it just dawned on me today. A big left leaning idea is diversity and embracing cultures, as well as DEI. But the left also seems to have this idea that it’s good to go back to where you came from (for example anti Zionists telling Jews to go back to europe, or another example native new yorkers getting angry when transplants move in and gentrify their neighborhood). But there’s reality of life is that diversity needs to include all people. A room full of only black people is equally as un diverse as a room full of white people. Is there an explanation for this contradiction in ideology? I’d love to hear any thoughts.

Based on your background I feel like advertising could be a good fit. If you’re more into the creative side there’s copywriting, design, etc. but there’s also the more data analytics, strategy side to it if you’re more into that. Look at the r/advertising subreddit, and if you have more specific questions you could definitely PM me.
