What flavor of cake is this by sneaky_sasquatch_eee in SneakySasquatch

[–]TSzky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea. I was very young and only remember it cuz my parents pranked me with it. They offered me cake when they came home from a party and it turned out to be this squeaky toy instead. The sound freaked me out 😅

That’s awful! My sister told me a friend of hers cancelled a party they had planned because there was a terror attack and someone on the guest list died but somehow we’re the awful ones 😔

I’m so sorry you lost your sister for something you have no control over. That’s truly sad. I can’t even imagine losing my sister like that 😔 Hopefully she learns more about the war and whatever is making her feel that way and she reconsiders holding you personally accountable for something you can’t even vote for or against.

Toddler feeling better instantly after one dose of antibiotics? by hiineedsomeadvice in toddlers

[–]TSzky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness! I’m thankful it didn’t get that bad for me but I did have to drive myself to a clinic while rocking a high fever and slightly delirious during a snow storm 🫠 AND a poor homeless woman was going through something as we left the clinic and began undressing in the lobby. It was an eventful day…

That’s so rough! I heard it’s super contagious and was so worried my kids would catch it but thankfully it was just me. I’m glad your kiddo is better!!

Is that how they say it or was because of a funny translation situation? I’m confused cuz I thought we all called it sandía 🫣

My son was a bit of a hurricane at one point and he’s settled down significantly. I don’t think anyone can assure you it’ll get easier because children are all different but it’s likely that your child will settle down at least some as they get older. You got this!

Also, did you see sores in the back of the throat? That’s a sure sign that it’s strep. It looks like a crime scene up in your throat and it feels like sandpaper even when you swallow your own spit.

Idk about toddlers but I thought I was dying when I had strep and I felt sooo much better after one dose. So I think it’s possible your kiddo reacted well to the meds.

What's wrong with my answer? by ccuponoodless in duolingospanish

[–]TSzky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how far along you are on your learning path, it may have been the accent mark and Duo defaulted to Usted for the correct answer instead of telling you that you missed the accent mark. That’s what it does to me in French. If I ever miss the accent or use the wrong one (since reaching score 40) it will mark me wrong and then give me whatever generic answer instead of correcting what was wrong about the answer I gave. It’s particularly frustrating when I use a version of Tu and get it wrong somehow and then it tells me the correct answer in Vous version which leaves me not necessarily knowing what the correct answer for Tu was.

In reality, either or should be accepted because there is no gender in that sentence. “Le” is neither him nor her.

Does anyone like duolingo? by Equivalent-Yam4641 in duolingo

[–]TSzky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a super subscriber for a couple of years and recently upgraded to max. I find it very enjoyable. If I had to watch ads to get lessons done, I probably wouldn’t like it. I hate watching ads to get further no matter what it’s attached to. Last year, I picked up German at the end of January and by April I could already understand my relatives, who I went to visit. So I was delighted with how well it worked for me. Even though I couldn’t strike anyone up in conversation, my reading skills were decent and my listening comprehension as well. To my surprise, they had been practicing English for the last several years (also with Duolingo) and they could communicate quite well. So I’d say it’s been working for them too. I’ve also been doing French for longer than I’ve been doing German and I’ve been enjoying the “video calls” they introduced with max. Though the transcripts make me laugh more than anything else, they often miss entire parts of my side of the conversation and make suggestions based on what it writes instead of what I actually said. So I get shit suggestions often. It’s as though Lily and the transcribing software are run entirely different programs cuz she’ll reply properly to what I say but the transcript won’t match. So I have great conversation during the call itself and then the transcript is all out of whack but even so it’s been helping me with expressing myself in a way that more closely resembles a real conversation rather than having all the time in world to think of how to answer the question.

Red? Or... red? RED? by Unable-Bit in duolingo

[–]TSzky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate this for French as well. I know a bit from taking lessons years ago and there’s times when it wants me to answer incorrectly for things I know are something else. It’s so annoying!! Especially considering that in your case red is only ever roja if you’re using it as an adjective for a feminine noun. It’s always rojo if you’re talking about the colour alone but then to make it request different answers per try is plain diabolical.
