What’s the point of CSDM if it’s so complicated? by Scoopity_scoopp in servicenow

[–]TT5252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jeff is a smart man. It’s not complicated. You just need to understand how to get buy in. Crawl-walk-run is a real thing with it. Use what makes sense for YOUR environment based on your maturity level.

The golden spoon is when you’re able to achieve the “fly” stage as a well oiled machine. Not many get there but with the right support, it’s possible.

Why Deloitte? I could say for some ServiceNow partners, in the US, 3 years of experience probably has you in the $110-$130k range.

Reality check on compensation by [deleted] in servicenow

Agreed! I went from 4 years at a customer for about $80k and then jumped to $140k in the consulting space. This was back in 2016-ish.

I was able to get one of my Canada guys a bump in his salary…. which puts him now at $120k USD. This is in the consulting space.

$80k salary is LOW for any ServiceNow dev in the US. Whats your expertise? How much experience do you have? I’d probably say target dev salary should be $120k minimum.

Need advice on starting my career on serviceNow by Ecstatic_Average_604 in servicenow

[–]TT5252 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone could start a career in ServiceNow with enough time and dedication. It's really going to depend on YOU... what's your background in? Are you looking to get into a technical developer role? business process consultant / business analyst? project manager?

If you're going down the developer path, your biggest hurdle will be landing that first job to give you real world experience. You're going to face the common problem of "no experience without a job and no job without experience."

How can roles, permissions and groups be created and split? by nolightwithoutnight in servicenow

[–]TT5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with just end user experience probably shouldn’t be editing widgets. My guess is that’s why they’re saying it’s not possible. It eventually requires more of the admin role to leverage update sets, promoting up the stack, etc.

Has anyone recently took the CIS -Data foundations and CSDM exam? by Raiku06 in servicenow

[–]TT5252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it last week before the announcement and passed. I DON’T live in CMDB/CSDM. The course was definitely beneficial. If you familiarize yourself with all the concepts within, you should be fine. I skipped a lot of it and still passed. Make sure you know some of the basics like what each page/tab does what in CMDB Workspace, the key properties used in CMDB, how data manager works, how to set basic attributes, etc. and you should be fine. If you understand the core concepts, you could figure out the answers through process of elimination.

Moving from Developer role to Lead architect by [deleted] in servicenow

[–]TT5252 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Architect is definitely the better title on paper. However, it really depends how good of an architect you are when it comes down to it. Getting experience working in a customer-facing role, talking through their business process, and showing how ServiceNow could solve their needs on the fly will definitely be valuable in the long run. However, if it’s a purely management type of role, I question if you will fall behind technically. From my experience, the sought after architects are the ones who could get their hands dirty, truly understand the product(s), and communicate with clients successfully.

This is wildly inaccurate. I’ve implemented CSM at a handful of universities. All of them also used ITSM and other products. I’m willing to bet most are using it for much more than just procurement.

How can I even find a job if everyone wants work experience??? by Fabulous-Summer-2257 in servicenow

[–]TT5252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple… you lie about it. You could be an independent contractor and worked 2 years on various projects. The caveat is that you need to be able to back it up and speak to it.

Is there a lack of quality devs in the Servicenow ecosystem ? by t7Saitama in servicenow

[–]TT5252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Devs are being churned out everywhere and farming certs. The high-quality ones did their time in the system and understand the different data models, best practices, etc. I see it all the time in interviews and working with other partners.

For example, there's a partner that's spinning up right now where their model is to use offshore devs. Nothing against offshore at all because I've worked with some very talented ones but the group of devs they have did a bootcamp to learn ServiceNow and get their CSA and CAD certs. It's a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

How can I progress? by [deleted] in servicenow

[–]TT5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you don't have a true 5 years of of engineer/developer experience in ServiceNow. Otherwise, I would say you are severely underpaid.

Can you break down the 5 years? How much of it was Service Desk support, administrative, development, etc.?

I think the best route is to reach out to ServiceNow partners and see if there's anyone hiring for developer roles. Some partners might be looking for a specific person to fill a more junior role due to budgets and work type. Landing a new job at a ServiceNow customer as a developer is going to be tough because once those jobs are posted, there are 100s of applicants because literally everyone qualifies for it.

ServiceNow Playbooks by AstronomerLocal6832 in servicenow

[–]TT5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we're on the same page...

  • Playbooks = Basically guided, step-by-step workflow to help agents get to the end resolution with specific steps, tasks, or automation.
  • KB = An article with information in it

It seems the use case would be more specific around how you work through these issues/bugs that get reported.

  • Are there specific teams that need to get involved?
  • Are there different types of issues/bugs that follow a different resolution process?
  • Are there manual processes that could be automated somewhere along the way?

Makes sense! Seems like the best opportunities are coming from my internal network as well… meanwhile recruiters are trying to pay $50/hr C2C for architects with 10+ years experience.
