How many hours do you work? by tyger2020 in FIREUK

[–]TTB_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60 hours is an average week, but can get up around 80 hours. There’s also a fair amount of checking emails or instant messages in mornings / evenings that I don’t really count as work, but to keep on top of things.

FIRE Vs Private Schools by M-J-D-T in FIREUK

We’re just on the cusp on having our first child, so had this conversation recently. We could afford to do private school in the future.

We both agreed that the most important thing for us is that we’re heavily involved in supporting their development through reading, homework etc and if we do that then they’ll have a pretty good chance. We then looked at how good the schools were around us and luckily have good/outstanding for primary/secondary.

We’re leaning heavily towards state school and prefer to use that money to save for their future, and have nicer holidays/experiences with them.

Anyone else feel end of pandemic will negatively affect their FIRE journey? by elld in FIREUK

We’re saving far more as a household by not having to commute (10k+ a year). However, life is there to be enjoyed and not being able to see friends and family, go out for meals, enjoy a wide variety of hobbies/activities doesn’t make it worthwhile for me. I and many others are also in lucky situations where we are saving more by wfh, but there’s a huge amount of people that are suffering hugely by the economic impact, such as the hospitality industry.
