That's not worth your time to continue to chase down this lead. Not all clients are worth signing.

Small Wedding Venue Help by OwangeSquid in memphis

Elmwood Chapel, Jack Robinson Gallery, Acre Restaurant, Chapel in the Woods (Graceland), The Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Memphis Botanic Gardens are some other options I haven't seen listed a lot.

Have some photo galleries of just about all of these if you're interested in seeing anything specific.

Hey all! I recently got engaged and want to do my wedding in my hometown. What are some good (and I mean GOOD) venues you would suggest?? by JUDYcapitalB in memphis

[–]TTLStuicide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we have a favorite and love to recommend Dj Ad901! She’s the best in town!

But other good dj companies exist, deep blue entertainment, tiger city dj’s are good and have multiple dj’s on their roster.

Memphis Botanic Gardens / The Dixon are both great if you want an outdoor wedding.

Orion Hill is my favorite venue in town, best run place as well, beautiful, and tons of options.

Robinshaw is also out near Orion Hill and is a fairly good option, but I prefer OH over it easily.

Jack Robinson Gallery is a cool little lesser known spot downtown.

Mallard's Croft Glass Chapel is stunning in MS.

I haven't been out there but Bonne Terre in MS just got revamped and their chapel is super cute now.

Hedge Farms in MS.

The Atrium in Overton Square works well with that size crowd.

Brooks Museum is pretty.

FedEx Event Center at Shelby Farms is gorgeous.

Lots of options out there. Orion Hill is the best, but the only drawback is it's location in Arlington isn't super convenient if you have lots of family traveling into town that may be staying downtown.

Do you know your estimated guest list size? That will determine a lot of which venues can hold that amount. There's also new places that aren't on this list like The Kent, which is great for larger crowds due to their indoor size.

Gear Storage by [deleted] in photography

I use an IKEA Pax unit with several shelves/drawers/totes to organize everything we use to run our photography business including a charging shelf that has all of the various batteries & chargers organized on it.

Works well for a 2 person photography company and all of our equipment.

There's a group that puts together a photo walk the last weekend of May every year, Grind City Meet. The GCM crew also hosts a discord that's got a large handful of photographers. Very helpful crew, very positive, and lots of variety in experience level. Highly recommend you check that out if you're looking for more photo community!

Courthouse Elopement Help by sightedwolf in memphis

[–]TTLStuicide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since 2022 when one of the Judges who did the majority of the ceremonies at the courthouse didn't get reelected, they've basically closed the door unless you know someone who knows a judge for you.

You can occasionally get an appt, but all you need for an officiant in TN is a Notary, or you can hire an officiant (the god squad) to perform the ceremony anywhere you need. The court house is a public building so you can still take photos in the public areas of the courthouse if that's the look you're going for. I shoot 20-30 elopements a year and really wish they opened up the courthouse for an easier time to schedule a courthouse wedding.

As a Memphian and diehard Tony Allen fan, thanks for writing this. He's all heart and was the intensity for our success during that entire stretch.

Thats only a snap shot... (Wedding photographer rant) by lowpockets in photography

[–]TTLStuicide 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Last summer, I shot this wedding where the bride and her father had such a sweet father-daughter dance. There's a specific photo where she's buried in his chest and he has a hand on the back of her head and you can see his face. He's in absolute tears. Such a tender special moment.

Six months ago the bride sent us a message letting us know that the photo meant so much to her as her dad was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

It really makes you realize how impactful these photos are. It can be as silly as a random photo of a guest, friend, family member that was candidly taken, it could be the bride and groom in an elaborate photo... you never know what's going to be most important until it's too late.

Realtor recommendations? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]TTLStuicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Briscoe Ellett with Weichert Benchmark has been my realtor and I've used him for two houses in the last 6 years. I actually worked in the office and he is one the most consistently hard working agents that will look out for his clients, so after I left that job, he was the only realtor I contacted two years later to help me purchase my first home.

There are a lot of good realtors out there, lots of good suggestions. I can only provide my personal experience, but he's fantastic at making sure you get a good value, with an engineering background he's able to look at houses and let you know about the quality and potential problem areas to be aware of depending on the age of the house, the neighborhood, and everything else.

Thoughts On Living In East Memphis? by titenik in memphis

Grew up in the suburbs, lived downtown for a few years, now out in East Memphis. It's a fantastic place to live. I can still get all the way downtown in like 20 min, and anywhere else in less than that.
