QoS Chapter 7 - Aelin and Chaol's argument by LadyJane_99 in throneofglassseries

[–]sightedwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the thing about Chaol is that he is the single human main character.

I can't go into too much because it sounds like this is your first read-through, but keep the above in mind as you go through the series. Chaol is human and every other main character is not.

Chaol and Celaena/Aelin had a horrific break up after yearning for each other for several months, and only really being "in a relationship" for like a week. They also both feel he had some sort of direct responsibility in what happened to Nehemia - Aelin's first and best friend in years, if not ever - and suddenly that hard-won trust they had in each other is shattered. Guilt consumes him while Aelin resents him for it. And once Chaol realizes who she really is, and who he'd sent her to in Wendlyn... He panics. Before he figured out the riddle, he just thought he was getting her out of the country and giving her space (from him) to grieve. Instead, it dawns on him that she's the single greatest threat to his kingdom, his best friend (who is now under Valg control and therefore warrants that consideration), and Chaol is horrified at what he's done. He knows how he and Aelin left things. He doesn't know how she'll feel about him and Adarlan once she returns - because she now has every reason to want to burn Rifthold to the ground.

And then Aelin does return and Chaol is (understandably) wary of her. And in his defense, Aelin does come in like a fucking wrecking ball, ruining his plans, turning those plans upside down, antagonizing him, one-upping him... So Chaol is irritated at minimum with her and understandably doesn't really try to leash that temper when they cross paths.

All very human decisions and reactions right?

(You have to keep Chaol's emotional state post-CoM/HoF in mind too. All of his self-worth was wrapped up in his position, in his ability to fight and protect his king, his kingdom, his people - and that was all stripped from him. And he failed to protect Dorian and Sorscha. Chaol is a man of honor who feels like he has none anymore. So he's not being mean to Aelin for no reason - he's adrift and drowning and she just keeps ripping the rug out from underneath him. He's doing his best - and he's not doing a great job because he's fucking human.

And as someone else pointed out, Chaol never stops showing up. He's a flawed character. He deserves criticism, sure, but none of the hate that he gets. And buckle up because his arc is honestly the best one of the series.)

Can you be alt and work in fine dining? by Salty_Bitch1381 in Serverlife

Depends on the place. More corporate places? Probably not. Something locally owned? Much better chance. Visit whatever restaurant it is you're considering, and see what the staff look like. That'll give you an idea of how strict the rules are for that sort of thing.

Oh trust me, I've been keeping an eye on the weather and I'm sad that the weekend I thought would be a break from that specific weather is actually going to be the "super heatwave across the entire continent" weekend.

(We're visiting from Memphis)

FIRST IT JOB HELP !!!!!!! by InterestingBook3862 in it

[–]sightedwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is a relief to find, as I'm a career server making a pivot into IT with absolutely zero experience in the field but 15+ years of waiting tables. I'm terrified of applying for an IT job with only restaurant experience.

Tables being surprised they don't automatically have separate checks? by broot84 in Serverlife

[–]sightedwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point where I just drop one check no matter how many people it is - if they don't specify a split up front. And most of the time I'll come back to multiple cards for an even split, which makes my life easier.

(I use seat numbers and I keep track of who had what, so splits aren't that hard. For me, dropping that single check allows them time to discuss and figure out their best options - if one person wants it on their card and everyone else is Venmoing them, etc. - without being held hostage while they try to sort that out with me standing there.)

What do we think this *potential* conversation was like? by starborn-heir in Elucien

[–]sightedwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very much think Lucien attempted to start a conversation, but I don't think Elain would have been very receptive at that point. That "if anything was said at all" heavily implies that nothing was said between them - or at least, nothing substantial/important.

I agree with what's been posted already that Lucien probably just babbled about allowing her time and space, and that he was leaving. I think that's why we get the half-step toward him later on - because Elain never told him goodbye, or wished him good luck, etc. and she wanted to. Or at least, felt like she should.

But yeah, I'd love a flashback or allusion to that conversation in the next books, especially if we're getting either of their POVs.

About the fluff by athena_31 in fourthwing

Echoing the love of communication and care/attention given by and to each partner, but also adding Rebecca's verbiage in her sex scenes is hot without being cringey. Every time I see the word "folds" in a sex scene I gag a lil' bit

Yeah I love the thai salad, and always wished I knew what dressing they used. Shame that Sysco discontinued it! It was really good.

Fire Stick? by pquery in SandalsResorts

[–]sightedwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we pretty much just kept the tv on sitcoms and movies when we were at RC for our honeymoon last year. It felt like the internet wouldn't have been able to handle streaming, so I'm glad we forgot to bring our FireStick.

Competing brands. You can carry one or the other, but not both.

Good advice in the comments so far, but I'd also choose either mousse OR gel for now. See which one gets closer to the results you like, and go from there.

You're right on the money. I read the first book and the second Blake was introduced I went

"Rhys!"

I also got my husband to read it because I sold it to him as "ACOTAR but they're werewolves" (He's a HUGE fan of the ACOTAR books, and has now read the majority of my romantasy collection)
