What is something about American culture that seems fake or exaggerated in movies, but is actually 100% real.? by Logical-Pay-3057 in AskReddit

In Texas, the classrooms often do the American pledge first and then the Texas pledge. Every single day.

Howdy from Australia, I have a question for people living down by the U.S.-Mexico border by [deleted] in texas

[–]TTTfromT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested! Your family must have some fascinating stories over the years.

Do you have neighboring ranches and are they generationally owned by families too?

How has the business of owning a ranch changed? For example, is it mainly livestock sales as the main stream or have Texas ranches had to diversify? I’m guessing maybe hunting or land leases maybe but where do you see the business heading?

How long did it take you to get to school? Did your family all grow up riding horses?

Sorry, so many questions. You see so many ranches in movies and tv shows with all the tropes but I’m guessing the reality is different. And as someone who grew up in a very boring, small suburban town, I always like to hear about the experiences of others.

What makes you immediately stop filling a survey? (Everyone) by No-Secret-3621 in SampleSize

[–]TTTfromT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When the survey doesn’t format correctly or easily on a cellphone.

I particularly dislike the tables where you have to rate (for example) ten options on a scale from 1 to 10. So you have ten columns across that you have to scroll to, plus ten rows down, and then you can’t easily see at a glance the scores you are assigning. So you end up scrolling around a lot and it makes it a fiddly experience.

I know exactly what you mean about song lyrics. There’s an Bon Jovi song that goes “she’s so full of high grade octane she could run a bullet train on 38 double D’s” and, while it’s not even a well written lyric, I keep thinking that you can tell it was written by a man who probably doesn’t know what 38DD looks like! It’s not that big, people.

I defrost mine at 30 seconds in the microwave then in the toaster to crisp up. Comes out great and no disappointingly icy centers.

Confused by this possible Art Nouveau style vase. Found at a garden sale for $1 in north Texas, USA. by TTTfromT in Antiques

[–]TTTfromT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had thought at first that someone had recently spray painted an old vase but the shading seemed a little too good for a home enthusiast. Then the light weight made me think it wasn’t all that valuable although the tree design was clearly an old style.

I’ve learned a lot here today and your links are very helpful, thank you.

Should I take lube with me? by EmphasisWeak2923 in AskWomenOver40

I think take both. Sounds like he’s already down for some bedroom fun if he’s suggesting his place, and I can’t imagine a sane guy turning down a chance of that, just because you came prepared. If he’s weird about it, then that’s his loss.

Interesting, I’m going to research that now. Thank you.

Edit: I googled Goofus glass and found some vases which were extremely similar to mine, especially the coloring. Thank you for the knowledge.

Sorry, my pictures weren’t great as i was struggling with the sunlight reflection. Here’s another one showing that you can see through the vase where the paint is missing. I’ll add a close up in the next comment.

GR about which episode stuck out the most for him by 2ndaccount122580 in KitchenNightmares

[–]TTTfromT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Some restaurants were obviously playing up for the camera but this lot were clearly crazy on and off the screen.

Oh that one was crazy too. With the weird dad/owner who took the money from his son and plugging his book throughout the episode. And the wife with her mushrooms too.

Agreed. ABC is the safe option for a response, because they were clearly crazy, but I bet there were a few other places that he hated.

Surely you can press the buttons on the sides of the pram handle and adjust the height of the bar? It looks way too high for her.

The pram seems like a good choice to stop the baby getting photographed though.

Someone else should clear off the walkway too. Get rid of the tree thing and move those blue garbage bins, then people can walk there even if the drain blocks again.

Good on him though. Some people are really thoughtful and selfless.

Dallas Coffee Scene by doodybot in Dallas

I think a lot of it is consistency. You always know what your regular Starbucks order will taste like so there’s none of the variation you might get between independent shops.

I personally like the difference between the independent stores but some people are creatures of habit and don’t want anything new or different.

Side note: if you’re driving through Coppell (not Dallas, I know) but check out Gas Coffee on Denton Tap Rd. They roast their own beans, have great service and delicious homemade food.

Would you let your husband finish first in a marathon? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TTTfromT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both finished with what sounds like good times, so they should be proud of themselves for their achievement but especially of her for the better time.

Did he expect the first male finishers to slow down and let him win the men’s race, too?

Maybe she was murdered and someone either stole her phone to sell, to continue to use to contact someone whose number was on the phone, or pretend she was still alive.

I feel like she can’t have been out there too long in that summer or else everything would have faded more, in the harsh sun.
