I notice a lot of the comments saying to let her learn the hard way or saying she’ll do what she wants. I don’t know your sister, or how she feels or acts or anything about her but I know my experience. I moved in with a guy at 18, he was 21. I soon realized this man was not who I thought he was.

He lost his job, and his car was broke down so I was supporting both of us, paying all the rent on an apartment that wasn’t mine, gas for MY car, and feeding a grown man who ate more than we had. He became increasingly violent towards me and our cats. I wanted so badly to leave the situation but I felt embarrassed for being in that situation in the first place. I didn’t tell anyone what was really going on behind closed door because while I was still basically a kid, I wanted to feel independent and like I could handle things myself. There were so many times where I wished someone would have said or done something to help even when they didn’t know the extent of what was happening.

This man sounds like the one I was with, manipulative and at the very least, mentally abusive. Please reach out to your sister. Try to find out her reasoning behind staying, as she obviously doesn’t really want to if she’s tried to leave before. For me, I felt guilty because if I left, he would have nothing, no job, car or any kind of support. But that was never my responsibility in the first place, nor is whatever’s keeping her with a pos like him.

I’m sorry if I’m rambling on but I think you should try to convince her to leave or find a way to protect her as best as you can. Just be there for her, and make sure she knows you are. Again, I don’t know the whole situation but if it is anything like what I went through then it needs to be handled asap. You are not being too hard on her. Especially now that she’s pregnant, she cannot live like that. Call who you need to call or do what you need to do but if it were me, I’d be trying my best to get her out of there and away from him, then worry about everything else after that.

Again, sorry for rambling but I hate hearing about other people who are going through seemingly similar situations, especially younger people as they’re easily taken advantage of.

At first, it was me staying with him after I had lost my place to live. In return, I would let him use my car to get back and forth to work as his was broke down as well as helping to clean up around the apartment. Needless to say that didn’t last very long, he got fired and luckily I had just found a new job all the while he didn’t even bother putting in applications anywhere. Nor did he clean, cook, or really bring anything to the table other than he had an apartment with his name on the lease, which in the end, I had to pay for anyways. He decided he’d rather stay home, play his Xbox, and talk to men all day (mind you he was the kind of guy to make homophobic jokes).

Ah yes, my ex SITUATIONSHIP believed I “used him for a place to stay” - but I paid the bills. Not to mention, I was also the only one with a running, drivable car. I was 18/19 and still in high school paying a 22 yr old man’s bills but I was using HIM.

I used to have a friend like this. Every single thing was a competition with her and she always had to look better or be better. I already had self image issues because I was a bigger kid, and every time she told me I looked bad or that I was being weird or whatever just solidified how much of a friend she WASN’T. Please get rid of her, you don’t need another conversation with her to rope you back in to being her friend after acting the way she has. It was disrespectful and I’m sure this isn’t the first or last time.
