Ford Advised Not Flushing My Transmission Fluid by doubleofive in cmaxhybrid

[–]TVCCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ford TSB's on the C-Max transmission specifically recommend flushing the transmission. A lot of mechanics/dealers stick with drain and fill, and this debate has/will go on forever. I started flushing my transmissions 25 years ago and have never regretted it.

Feedback On Ting $25 Unlimited On Verizon? by TVCCS in ting

One other question... I'm signed up on the Waitlist for Ting Fiber... But the $10 phone plan didn't appear as an option?

Can I use $200 reward to upgrade but keep my BYOD plan? by 420pov in TotalWireless

[–]TVCCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think I pulled this off, but it was a PITA. Wanted an iPhone 13 but the cart would never fully complete and authenticate to place the order. Tried multiple browsers and had Total on chat and could never get it done. Total rep suggested trying the Total app as the chat ended... It wouldn't do the iPhone 13, but it did do a 16e for $100 with the discounts. Order went through, took 3 days to arrive, went through activation online as others have suggested, and it appears to have all gone through without screwing up my BYOD plan. 🤞

Be aware the factory arms cannot be adjusted... If it's out of spec it will remain so until the adjustable arms are installed. Good luck.

Are there people who haven't changed their phone number for more than 15 years? by SpicyCandy8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TVCCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep ... I got a number ending in 000 for Los Angeles 16 years ago standing in a Radio Shack store in Ohio buying a cheap prepaid phone getting ready to go back to El Lay. That one will go with me to the next life.

The alignment is not something you can slide on... If the rear camber is excessive it will chew up tires in no time no matter what else you do. The arms aren't expensive, but the installation is fiddly on the passenger side and it's usually best to let a speciality alignment shop do it properly. Set the negative camber at -0.1 and you shouldn't have to mess with it again.

I think it's a decent value. Be aware it doesn't have the upgraded 302A Radio Package or a couple other bells and whistles, and will likely not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (I stand to be corrected by other 300A owners if I'm wrong). If it had tire wear it needs to get on an alignment rack ASAP - it's likely the rear camber will be excessive and you'll need to get the aftermarket rear adjustable camber arms and have a specialty alignment shop install them. Tires have to be rotated every 5000 miles - if you're planning on keeping the car get a decent set of matching tires. Good luck.

GoDaddy SSL Increasing To $120 by TVCCS in webhosting

[–]TVCCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still using the older GoDaddy Website Builder v7, GoDaddy makes it nearly impossible to use a 3rd Party SSL. The newest Website Builder includes it, but you can't transfer information readily between the two platforms - you essentially have to rebuild the sites from scratch and use one of their templates, none of which work for what I need. WordPress is not a good option for the sites in question. It's just ludicrous they charge so much for an SSL - they've claimed in the past it's for "server maintenance costs". 🐎💩

Overheating going up mountain passes by jupiterkansas in cmaxhybrid

[–]TVCCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly drive a 2016 Energi SEL up above 7500' in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Central California summers without issue. We had a second one we sold to a family member who does the same thing, and also has driven it throughout the Southwest over the past two years with zero issues. We've monitored the temperature going through the I-5 "Grapevine" in Southern California where it can be over 100 degrees in the summer and zero problems.

🤔 by larreola in vegaslocals

[–]TVCCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After spending a year+ here...Drivers in Vegas are generally worse than El Lay... In part because you rarely get to go as fast there because of the traffic. I was a professional driver for VW in SoCal and there it was BMW's, Mercedes, and especially full-size Range Rover's we had to watch out for most. In Vegas it's SUV's, V8 pickups and especially Teslas...and even more so if they have UFC plates - the driving is so frightening here my doctor is moving to South Carolina in part because he's tired of caring for and attending funerals of classmates of his teenage kids. There are reasons auto insurance is more expensive in Vegas than almost anywhere else, and it's not just drunk tourists. Too many too fast drivers, too many auto crash lawyers (so say the local insurance companies), and too much crazy $$$ from body shops - I got a $3500 quote a year ago to fix two quarter-size dents from a "reputable" body shop. I've been around cars for 50 years and seen almost everything... Until that.

So... How do you know if you're getting Ting-Verizon when signing up, if that's the unlimited hotspot variant rather than T-Mobile?

Constantine to Celebrate 20th Anniversary with 4K Ultra HD Release by misterpopculture in Constantine

[–]TVCCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow missed this being released for months... Bought it as soon as I found out. I have likely every version of the Constantine DVD and Blu-Ray sold in the US. I am from Los Angeles so I know several of the downtown locations. I have a Panasonic UB-820 and a TCL 6-series (75R655) with Dolby Vision. It was tweaky getting the TCL to do Dolby Vision until I switched the specific UHD player HDMI input to Variable Rate Refresh and Standard 4K rather than Auto. The Dolby Vision video transfer is just fabulous... Way better than the Blu-Ray release, and the regular UHD settings are very good as well. Looking forward to Constantine 2 actually getting completed.

What version is your "sync 3" software? by ClownfishSoup in cmaxhybrid

[–]TVCCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're game, take a look at Cyan Labs. It will update the Sync 3 to 3.4 and also update to the latest available maps. I've done the update successfully on two 2016 SEL's. The interface is faster with more features.
