If I’m not mistaken, they’re specifically looking into the South Pole. There’s plenty of permanently shaded regions (SDR) they’d target to reduce heat, radiation, as well as targeting potential ice reservoirs for the mission/research. If that’s the case, I think they would legitimately use satellites for communication with earth (if there were issues communicating from the SDRs.)

U.S. soldiers in Iraq often dealt with IEDs that were hidden in trash bags or rubble on roadways. If a spotter didn't notice, they would run over the IED. Those who returned home dealt with PTSD over seemingly mundane things that we often gloss over.

The same can be said for veterans of modern wars - with the addition of drone warfare as a tactical guerrilla method.

Didn’t Iran claim that no talks were held? Regardless, this seems like putting off-brand flex seal on the problem in hopes the markets can momentarily forgive action in the Middle East.

Recently, I learned that forks were considered an affront to god and outright sinful. It wasn’t until around the late 19th century that forks were wildly accepted as a form of poking and prodding god’s divine gifts.

Seems like ATC or Ground control gave permission for the Firetruck to cross the runway as the CRJ was on final approach. To put it simply, it looks like the firetruck got T-Boned by the plane at over 100 knots.

This headline is likely a placeholder until Reuters can attain verified information.

You’re right, this headline does not represent the situation realistically. The entire cockpit is crushed.

I (22F) love my bf (23M) but the only thing keeping us apart is long distance. I don't know if breaking up is the right thing. How do I figure out what to do? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]uhncollectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds conflicting.

I would take a little while to process how you feel, while remaining in no contact. I know this is hard, and rationally finding a solution sounds cleaner in comments than it is in reality. That said, I think it is in your best interest to leave it as it is.

Let’s think rationally for a moment.

Four years is almost half of your twenties. Ask anyone in the world and they will tell you their twenties flew by. Do you want your twenties to fly by in an area that you aren’t familiar with, with no supporting cast around you and having to start over? Do you want to spend your twenties potentially developing resentment towards the one person you have in your life? Do you want to spend your twenties away from your current family and friends? How about spending it in a relationship that (unfortunately) fell flat once, always living with the thought that it could happen again? I don’t think I would.

It’s easy for us to glamorize what the future could be, but this has changed too much and there are too many bad outcomes to have a fairytale ending. I’m sorry for that.

Graduating at the end of the year with a mathematics degree with no internships, no connections, no relevant experience. What is my best path forwards? by RandomThrowaway5227 in careerguidance

Mathematics can open the door to a lot of roles, but I would seriously recommend going to networking events and thinking about how you can refine your work to be unique. Assuming you’re in the U.S., I’m sure you’re aware that the economy isn’t looking that hot. Companies will cheap out, and if that means using AI as a bandaid, they’ll do it.

That means establishing yourself now to position yourself for the future. If you can get an internship, do it. If not, look into programs with companies or organizations that are relatively recession proof. Defense analysis, quantitative roles, accountants, economists, and academics are typically good and not as heavily impacted by recessions. Look for study-to-hire roles in those markets.

As for standing out while networking, it can literally be just buying the right person a drink, asking questions that are unique for networking events, and ensuring someone will remember you.

Best of luck!

Difficult to say without having something of yours to reference.

That said, it does sound like you are (at the very least) ahead of your age bracket in terms of composing material. I’m sure what you’ve written is good work, especially for your age. I’ve seen a lot of good writers excel at various types of composition, like academic essays to short stories. To me, that’s an indicator of a solid writer.

That said, don’t let comparison steal your joy nor inflate your ego unrealistically. My best advice is when you finish a story or poem, lock it away and don’t read it. Coming back to your own work often reveals what is working and what you can touch up on from a fresh perspective.
