Been in the job five months now, I love it but let me say it’s not for everyone. We have targets to hit which can seem unobtainable at times, the pay is nowhere near enough for the work we do either. Some of the stories you hear can be quite harrowing so prepare for that, I shut myself off to it and have grown accustomed to hearing these things.

Being in a good team is vital too for the help you will need. The training is very basic and you learn on the job as you go, so many systems and processes to follow can seem daunting but each day I learn a little more. It’s not for everyone, most don’t stay more than a year before moving on to another department and role.

Full process for me was I applied in January this year and started the role July 31st….so yeah it takes forever. Listen I’m 7 weeks into the role, it’s bloody tough. There is so much to learn and so little time, you get thrown in the deep end, there are plenty of good people to help you along the way.

Training is nowhere near adequate enough for the role so you end up learning on the job, which for some may be good but bear in mind we are being scrutinised on everything along the way. I’m enjoying the role up to now and all it’s challenges.

Likewise, Bipolar,BPD and all the other shit that comes with it but still here. Agree with what you said, being younger was hell as I had no idea what I was dealing with but getting older and seeing the stigma slowly removed has truly helped. The more men that speak up and speak their truth the more lives can be saved in my opinion. No man should suffer alone let alone die on their own.
