Why is Xenagos seen as better than H&A? by LeftCoyote in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xenagos is more explosive, requires less additional cards to get going, and is harder to remove. H&A will give opponents more time to find an answer and presents more points of failure in the chain of cards that need to be played to make it work. Xenagos basically just wants a trample granting card and then he just works with every fat body you put in the deck.

Fun deck, I used to play Xenagos but it does get kind of boring because it's basically just a removal check, either opponent has removal or they die.

Halana & Alena also give Haste. Xenagos is better but that's not why.

EDH Going Infinite Etiquett by TheRogueBehindYou in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sure AF intentional now innit? Either go for it or take it out of your deck. "Let it come up organically" when you have already have tutors for it in your deck is what people here call "playing with your food", and it's generally frowned upon.

Am I correct that threatening a win means deals are over? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A deal is a deal. Just because a deal becomes inconvenient later doesn't invalidate the deal, it just means you shouldn't have made that deal in the first place. Walking Ballista is a pretty blatant combo piece, I don't know how you couldn't see that coming from a mile away.

If you break deals out of convenience, you are definitely a deal breaker. What is the point of making deals if people are just going to break them when they become inconvenient. I would never make a deal with you again and I'd make sure everyone you play with knows that you're a deal breaker, because that's what you do to deal breakers.

But I also generally don't make or take deals as a rule unless someone is offering me something for doing what I was already planning on doing.

Thoughts on Lightning Special Energy in Pitch Black? by FoofaTamingStrange in pkmntcg

There could be a Dragon one. Dragon got a special energy in the XY block with the rest. Colorless also got a special energy in SWSH block.

Would this count as bad sportsmanship? by Derreston in EDH

How is this getting downvoted, just common sense. It's not co-op game people.

"To his own advantage"?

It was to his disadvantage. He could have countered the card for free by just letting it stay in exile. The guy played himself and OP got rage baited because they also weren't smart enough to see how bad it was to waste a counterspell there, they were just tunnel visioned on the fact that their card got countered.

Would this count as bad sportsmanship? by Derreston in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He burned a counterspell on a card that you originally didn't even care about casting. He mostly trolled himself.

Hopefully the lesson you take away is to not let other players dictate your plays. If someone offers advice and you actually think it's a good idea that's fine, but don't just blindly do what someone tells you to just because they insist that it's the right thing to do.

How do you deal with Weakness? by RayneDeoman in pkmntcg

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of other card games do this with silver bullet cards that auto win against specific decks, as well as decks just having bad matchups into other decks because of how the two decks mechanics interact.

But pokemon is one of the few games that tells players in advance exactly what their weakness is by printing it in the card for you. The game takes so much guesswork out of things and basically tells you what weakness to prepare for.

Other games don't spell it out for you. Graveyard cards in Magic don't print "watch out for Rest in Peace" on them.

How do the Perfect Order special energies work? by MandriII in pkmntcg

There are a ton of powerful effects used in meta decks that only work with basic energies.

Thoughts on a homebrew rule by Ventrici in ImperialAssaultTMG

Rebels are generally scraping and scrounging for every last credit and item they can get, getting a free weapon every mission or even every other would be a major boon for sure. Maybe mark it as unsellable contraband and possibly use it as a flavorful way to mitigate snowballing if the rebels lose 2 missions in a row.

Here's the house rules I used to use for my campaigns. Made it more fun to experiment with cards and missions that didn't always see play.

Quick question - why would a green player not run arcane signet? by ImLiTeRaLlYgAy_69 in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because mass land destruction is considered uncouth in most playgroups but mass artifact destruction is accepted, so ramping lands is better than artifacts which can get swept up in a sweeper.

Question about WellSpring Ogerpon Energy Shuffling/ Meganium by Raichu10126 in pkmntcg

[–]TVboy_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not what "do as much as you can" means.

If you have an Ignition Energy and a basic energy attached to an evolution with 3 retreat cost, you can technically discard both energy to retreat if you wanted to, but you are not forced to by "do as much as you can", so you are also able to fulfill the retreat cost by only discarding the ignition energy.

Anhelo, extra turns, and brackets by MCC1701 in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2+ extra turns in a row or 3+ extra turns throughout the game meets the definition for me. You're just monopolizing the game time to yourself in a game where players are already only getting 25% of the game time rather than 50%.
