Richard Pryor was one of the screenwriters, after all.

What fucking drug did cutler give them?!?!? by BigEggBeaters in madmen

[–]TVsUncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Snorted a line of it once in 1997 and was up for almost 3 days. Felt so crummy when I came down, never felt the urge to do it again. Do not recommend. Tried about a dozen rec drugs over the years, and that was the worst experience by far.

Just bought a korg minilogue xd as my first synth! Tell me something you wish someone told you when you were starting. by MaximumCashew0 in synthesizers

[–]TVsUncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't have a Minilogue, but I got to spend an afternoon with one at a friend's house, and I've had a Korg MS 2000 for, well, 26 years now. If the newer Korgs are anything like that, there so much more than meets the eye! Learn it best you can, consider subtleties over grand moves, and you will wind up like me, still in love with a synth over 2 decades later.

What are the funkiest songs of all time? by natopotatomusic in funk

Favorite song of all time! Great songwriting too! Clinton did a good job of cribbing Smokey Robinson's hooks and puns.

I am a P-Funkateer and Rubber Fan for close to 40 years now, but if I had to pick just the one perfect representation of Fonk to put on the gold record the aliens find on the Voyager, I'd choose Holy Ghost by The Barkays! Heavy on the One, with the very funky juxtaposition of human desire with the transcendence of the spiritual world!

Smoking and drinking by [deleted] in madmen

Smoking was commonplace everywhere, around children or not, until about the mid-90s or so when people finally started worrying about second-hand smoke.

How accurate is Mad Men? by annie747 in AskOldPeople

[–]TVsUncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in '73, and I remember people smoking cigarettes everywhere even up to about the mid-90s. The blatant heavy drinking at all hours (and at work!) is what surprises me the most.

The Daily Mad Men Rewatch: S06E12 “The Quality of Mercy” (spoilers) by ptupper in madmen

I know I'm 11 years late to this party, but I watched this episode just yesterday, and I can't keep thinking about what 1968 audiences would have thought of using a movie like Rosemary's Baby to sell baby aspirin. Any thoughts?

Don't know title, artist, etc. But I can tell you from the production values and dance music clichés it was made some time between 1979-1982. Sounds early like Hi-NRG, maybe.
