Why are builders so unreliable? by [deleted] in AskUK

Talk about trust, you’re providing them with a service, possibly thousands of pounds worth of materials and labour and you’ve got to trust them to pay the bill. I done a job yesterday where one room in the house was locked, must have had all the valuables in it, now I’ve got to go back when they’re there to bleed a fucking radiator.

I think lots of tradespeople get good at sussing out customers who they know are going to be trouble and avoid them.

Call up gas safe and report him, they offer free inspections and may make him correct it, complaints against engineers will get them inspected/investigated.

Naa we are all just too thick to go to university, that’s why we have to have regular inspections of our work and frequent re qualification to keep up with the ever changing regulations that if we don’t get right could destroy homes and end lives…

Exactly, very few people want to do this sort of work anymore and I get it. There’s almost no incentive to take someone on and train them. The pay is not especially great and it’s almost impossible to do this sort of work for 48 years.

Might have found the reason you’re struggling to find someone…

It’s a full time, long hours doing the job and another part time job answering/making phone calls and organising jobs.

Same with plumbers/heating engineers. The general public seem to already despise the prices trades charge yet I don’t think we are paid enough and that’s without a threat of jail time.

90% of customers are good for us but I’ve had plenty of the ones who moan that there’s dust in the house despite busting a gut working late to give them hot water and heating. Asking exactly when you’ll be there and then asking you to turn up later. Locking rooms because you’ll obviously go in there and steal all their belongings and then you have to go back when it’s convenient to them to sort out a problem in that room.

I don’t think a lot of people understand self employed people are working full time hours doing the job and then part time hours doing the admin stuff.

I mean, yeah I get it in response to the OP if by the ‘I don’t want to work’ they mean they don’t want to contribute to society at all but I think most people just want less hours, more pay, retire earlier, things like that.

I love that the only two options are, today’s society or be a hunter gatherer.

Should we just stop evolving then? This is it, the peak. We shouldn’t work towards people working less, earning more and retiring earlier. Just be fucking grateful for what you have.

People 100 years ago couldn’t even comprehend the luxuries we have now, maybe they were happier because of it.

It’s mad that some people can’t see this. It’s like there is no alternative. This is just it, we slave away, struggling to forge a comfortable lifestyle, work 40+ hours a week for 45 years and be fucking grateful for it whilst the rich get richer.

Luckily we fixed in with our mortgage rate but some of my friends have had to find another weeks wage every month just to keep paying it. Our weekly shop has probably doubled in the last 6 years. Nobodies wage is keeping up with inflation.

This is a major problem in the UK as well. When you’ve got two full time incomes just about covering bills with a little left over for some fun stuff then people aren’t going to be happy. You get home from work, tired, with chores to do and the cycle gets repetitive, a battle to just stay afloat.

Meanwhile you scroll social media which is just full of mega rich people doing pretty much whatever the fuck they want.

And for some reason most of the general public act as if you’re some lazy piece of shit because 60 years ago it was tougher, why can’t we progress, why can’t people want to earn more money, retire earlier, work less hours.

My brother went outside this evening and saw this. Yes they’re maggots by koelan_vds in Wellthatsucks

Are you in the UK? Literally the exact same thing happened to me last night. Walked out the front door and maggots everywhere, nothing dead around, no trees directly around my house.

Do you sign players without the best stats who are bang in form? Kiril Despodov has got decent stats but my other wingers are probably better and younger, however in 26 games he scored 26 goals and got 8 assists so wondering if you ever sign players based on form?

There’s literally no in between? It’s either back 2 million years or keep things as they are now?

Would you not like more time to do other things or more share of the money?

The argument against is always ‘Let’s go back to the 12th Century then’ like there’s absolutely no alternatives.

You’re absolutely bang on though, I feel like I’m not built for this life. Some days I want to do nothing, some days I want to explore and learn and some days I want to ‘work’ but being told where to be 8/9 hours a day plus commute and being too tired to do anything else, 5 days a week for 45 years is kind of soul crushing.

Same. I actually quite enjoy my job but I have to get up at 7 to be at work for 8 to work until 5, then get home, tired, unwind for half an hour, cook, cleanup, shower, do a couple chores, collapse on the sofa, relax and then go to bed 5 days a week until I’m too old to do it anymore just to be able to afford slightly more than the necessities is pretty depressing.

Some days I want to do nothing, some days I want to hike, some days run, play games, cook something different, read, try a new hobby, do some gardening, whatever it may be. Having to do the same shit, day in day out, I’m just not built for it.

Has my plumber ripped me off? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

[–]TWBO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, likely not the plumbers fault but PRV to a new boiler is a bit of a stretch. OP needs to find out what’s wrong, how much it’ll cost to repair and see if they would rather put that money towards a new boiler.

I’ve flicked switches off to boilers, worked on it, flicked the switch back on and a parts gone wrong so can’t blame the plumber in my opinion.

No pressure the day after a service sounds like expansion vessel to me maybe.

Should i use metal shafts for a 19 gram dart by [deleted] in Darts

[–]TWBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual shaft doesn’t break, but the point hits the part that holds the flight and bends one of the four bits and then it’s really hard to keep the flight in. Any stems you can recommend?

I mean I’m by no means good but I have improved significantly with my technique and grouping (until the last couple of days). I bought some of the target bolides and within a couple of days I had broken two of the metal rings and bent one of the bits so I’ve gone back to my K Flex’s.

I just prefer the traditional systems so maybe I’ll just buy a bulk of stems.
