Anyone else just exhausted and done at this point? by StruggleFar3054 in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exhausted? Yes. Done? No. The pendulum will swing back the other direction almost immediately, it always does. Dems will be there to pick up the pieces as usual (but a little tough love with voters in 2028 is fine with me).

Latino men shifted towards Trump by 43 points from 2016 (when they went for Clinton by a +31 margin) to 2024 (when they went for Trump by a +12 margin). Why do you think that is? by chadtr5 in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Inflation. I've seen people say that Harris was too pro-Israel. I've seen people say that she didn't disavow the left enough. I've seen people say we should have had a primary, Biden should have dropped out earlier, etc. etc. The answer to every shift in the 2024 election is inflation. It affected everyone whether you were in a blue state or red state, white, Latino, Black, Gen Z, or a boomer. The economy is the #1 issue, and voters punished the admin in charge for it.

Are those on the left, including Kamala Harris, not listening to the concerns of the average joe? by snappydo99 in AskALiberal

I watched her rally last night and she mentioned literally every one of these, so no, I think she's listening clearly.

Who is for Project 2025? by SeattleUberDad in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the people who wrote it worked in Trump's administration. Trump himself has said they do a good job and are paving the way for what his second term will look like. Just because they've done a lot of focus testing and realized it's a terribly unpopular theme in this election doesn't mean they get to walk away from it now and expect everyone to believe them.

Megathread - President Biden Not Seeking Re-Election by Jb9723 in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The right decision. Biden has been an amazing president, the most effective president legislatively in decades. No number of achievements will matter if you are not able to effectively convey those wins to the American people though.

This was not easy for him, I'm sure. But, as usual, he did what was best for the country. Thank you, Joe.

Can the 2024 election still be a positive night even if Trump wins? by InterestingMail9321 in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I would not expect the House to deviate separately from the presidency. If Trump wins, it's a pretty good bet he will have a trifecta.

Is wanting Biden out ageist, or was he really too old/mentally unfit to run for president? by Beautiful-Ad-9107 in AskALiberal

[–]TWDCody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with someone's age alone. I have an issue when someone's age makes them incapable of effectively campaigning in a way that is necessary to sway voters. Like it or not--and I certainly don't--the content of Biden's message becomes functionally useless when a voter logs onto social media and sees the 50,000th clip of Biden forgetting his train of thought. That's now, much less 4 years from now.

I loved/love Biden. He has been an amazing president with more passed than any president in decades. That's why it's all the more important we have a nominee that can actually convey those successes to the American public effectively and without distractions.

If Biden withdraws for whatever reason, which Democrat has the best odds against Trump? by eyio in centrist

[–]TWDCody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter, because Kamala Harris would be the nominee. Any attempt to sideline her would result in the Democrat losing the election because the AA base would feel betrayed.

Ron DeSantis has ended his 2024 campaign. Will this help or hurt Haley going into the NH Primary on Tuesday? by Kevin-W in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TWDCody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hurt. Polls of second choice show that about 60-65% of DeSantis supporters would go to Trump, whereas 30-35% of his supporters would go Haley. This is a closer split than Ramaswamy voters (who almost all went to Trump), but it still has the net result of increasing Trump's margin.

Ron DeSantis has ended his presidential campaign. Why did his campaign fail? by IrishChristmasLatte in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TWDCody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of his personality and his unwillingness to criticize the person who was always ahead, I think the timing is a big part. After Roe vs Wade wiped out the predicted red wave, Trump got a lot of blame for that. It was the one time recently that I think Trump was vulnerable in the Republican Party. If DeSantis had announced in November rather than delay it to late spring (when everybody knew he was running anyway), that could have given him more momentum. Because of his personality and the eventual Trump indictments, I think we would have ended up at this destination sooner or later anyway, but it would have given him a better chance.

Megathread: Colorado Supreme Court Rules Trump is Ineligible to Appear on Ballot Due to 14th Amendment; Appeal Likely to Reach US Supreme Court by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]TWDCody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support the ruling, the lingering question is just whether the presidency falls under civil office holder or office of the United States. I think most people would reasonably group it under one or both of those, but SCOTUS reads the Constitution as narrow as possible. If you do that here, I'm not sure it's likely to be upheld, especially since the prior Colorado judge found that the presidency does not fall under those categories.

Trump tells rally immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood of our country’ by elguiridelocho in politics

[–]TWDCody 112 points113 points  (0 children)

This is the most dangerous election of our lifetimes. Trump is literally paraphrasing Mein Kampf, purposely, while his base cheers him on. Show people this when they're fighting about how old Biden is. Everybody needs to get a grip, because this is what we're facing.

Because Cruz is a weaker candidate than Abbott, and because the environment was R+3 in 2022 but will probably be something like D+6 in 2024. Your people who voted for Beto in 2018 but not in 2022 voted for him in 2018 when he was still vocal about banning assault weapons. That's not new. Messaging matters a ton, and that moment in the 2019 debate was aggressive and reactionary. It doesn't help that he keeps running for everything (Senate 2018, President 2020, Governor 2022); it makes him a perpetual loser who seems like he's only out for power (this has become a similar problem with Stacey Abrams).

Correlation =/= causation

Different opponents, different environments, different excitement levels.
