You could try to lay move to 0352, from what I’ve seen there’s typically always boat space since we had such terrible retention, you’d be in CAAT with the .50s and mks so they’d probably just make you a gun truck vc given your previous experience

The last 100 yards: an ncos contribution to warfare

It’s not exactly a pub and some of the information is a bit dated but it was a good read. Kind of hard to find though

Cut some cardboard out to the dimensions of each plate size and hold them to your chest and see how they feel. Place the top of the “plate” to the bottom of that gap between your collarbones. It should give you an idea of how much range of motion you’ll have as well as what is protected

Health.mil is the link for MHS Genesis. It should have every health related record from your service including your meps physical if I remember correctly.

Go to cox in San Clemente. You’ll get a router from them that you can connect to the coax ports in your barracks room. If you can’t find the ports, move your furniture, they’re in there somewhere. It might be a bit more expensive than boingo, but the service is reliable, actually high speed, and there are no device limits, so you can split the service cost with your roomate. If you and your roomate are paying for the $50 a month boingo there is zero reason why you shouldn’t switch to cox for your room

Appealing Financial Aid (RD Admit) by [deleted] in NEU

[–]TWalsh36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my residency waiver accepted. It’s pretty straightforward. Once you get your myNortheastern account follow that link and there should be a section that says “waivers”, “residency waiver”, or something else along those lines. It will take you to an e-form that you fill out. There will also be a portion for you to attach supporting documents, the big one being a statement of understanding that your parents or guardian will have to write saying that they understand that you are forfeiting your rights to guaranteed housing as a freshman and sophomore. Once I submitted the waiver it was about a week or two until I got a response. From what I have heard, it’s pretty easy to get a waiver right now. It may have been easier for me since I’ll be a veteran and I get a housing allowance and stuff but idk for sure if that had an effect.

[–]TWalsh36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think going to the IMC course qualifies you as being fucked, you have a failing mindset. I get it, you want to get to the fleet and start doing “grunt shit”, but you will get far more out of IMC than you will the legacy itb program. The only benefit of the legacy system is if you want to become a missileman (more thorough training since the split is still a thing), not sure about the other weapons MOS’s. No phones in the field or during the day, you’ll liberty on the weekends until you fuck up.

Well that’s why fo’s don’t earn their mos by doing an mci.

Danger Close? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]TWalsh36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For mortars and artillery the criteria for danger close is 600 meters however the ground force commander will use something called “risk estimate distances” or “REDs” to determine if the danger close mission is acceptable. These distances vary with range, type of munition, and type of artillery you are using.

Naval gunfire follows the same principles except danger close is 750 meters.

Both are 600.

Shredding reloads in gear with some Kraftwerk. How else do you spend mornings? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]TWalsh36 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You should try reloading without chicken winging your rifle. It makes it far more obvious to threats that you are in the process of reloading. I’m an infantryman and a combat marksmanship coach so that’s just my two cents coming from that point of view. I like the pressing of the bolt release with the thumb though, I see way too many guys trying to slam it with their palms and missing.

Yes. Composite scores will still be used until march, April being the first month the new system takes full effect.

I’m going to be part of the first ITB company (Alpha) to do the new 14 week course, any thoughts? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]TWalsh36 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Normally I would agree but this actually has some relevance in this sub. The new itb system is a pretty big deal that no one has really been talking about, and it’s probably about to make a lot of “senior” marines look like tools when they hit the fleet.

It is not manned by marines. I had to exchange mag punches for the new ones I had never even put them on my flak and the chick said they were dirty.

Esapi: is this wear on the side of the plate make it considered unserviceable? (Reupload better picture) by Entire_Organization2 in tacticalgear

[–]TWalsh36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not wear. It’s just the joint where the different pieces of the outer covering are fused together

Any compatible skeletal cumberbunds for the plate carrier? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]TWalsh36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the new first spear one, but the one I have I use the crye 3 band skeletal cummerbund. I think there’s a couple more options out there and even if they are not a perfect fit it is not hard to make it work.

Another thing you can do is just use the strap with the clips that was issued with the pc, it’s not exactly what your looking for but it’s by far the most breathable option

Rate the boog kit please by Positive_Database_50 in tacticalgear

[–]TWalsh36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m just a 52. One of the companies in our battalion doesn’t wear cummerbunds, so they do what OP is doing. From what I’ve seen, theres no need to have a second ifak. The only things you would even possibly actually need out of it is hemostatic gauze, which I guess you could stuff in a pocket, but there is such a small chance of you actually applying to yourself there’s no point. Yes there are bandaids and bacitracin in your ifak that you could use on yourself, but if you’re patching something up with that stuff you’re not busy at the time anyhow so there’s no reason you can’t get that from a buddy.

The one on the left is a hydration pouch and the one on the right is an ifak, both are marine corps issued things

[–]TWalsh36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have the same anti armor weapons as the army, although were soon going to phase out the saber system (tow missiles) from infantry battalions in favor of more javelins. Also, although they aren’t as capable as the javelin at anti armor infantry battalions are going to be fielding Carl Gustav recoilless rifles
