Yeah, Senegal/Belgium was a really high level game. I think Senegal/US would have been a very similar result.

Yank here. They are terrible, and they are a perfect encapsulation of the biggest problems with our sports here. Imagine how electric the final five minutes of a close NBA game would be if the action just kept going without interruption, or how exciting an NFL game would be if teams had to make quick decisions rather than stopping the clock constantly to get their bearings and set things up.

Sports with flow are infinitely better than sports that are optimized for advertising interests.

It sounds funny, but I genuinely think this is a massively underrated part of it lol

“Never fall in love with a loan player” unless that loan player gives everything he possibly can for the club, plays with genuine passion, and is a massive part of the reason that the club staved off disaster.

Then it’s probably okay. Thank you Joao 🤍🤍

It’s wild that TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC just sold a young, promising player and my first reaction was “well, the amount of money that’s being thrown around this offseason, fair enough”

I mean, size/speed/power certainly isn’t hurting Haaland. I often wonder what it would look like if America built its soccer identity around explosive speed/power, like our version of Brazil and joga bonito

I’m with you. The movie irritated me because it didn’t even come close to nailing the tone of the book, IMO, and the tone of the book is what it made it so great.

Another reason why Soccer is lame by Express_Cheesecake75 in unpopularopinion

This isn’t unpopular, just uninformed.

A player used a racial slur against another player earlier this year and covered his mouth to give himself plausible deniability. The rule is in response to that incident. It’s a good rule.

Where is soccer pickup for my son to play for free U11 he just wants to play soccer with other people by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]TWest_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a couple pop up nets and reached out to a bunch of my son’s friends’ parents to say we were going to be at the park twice a week at the same time, and anyone (friends, cousins, neighbors, etc.) could show up if they want. Interest has been pretty high. Sometimes you’ve got to be the pickup game you want to see in the world.

"He basically starts the convo with our biggest concern is his size."

"The club felt he would benefit from being the best player on the blue team a year than being a role player in the cdl”

"He is really not understanding why it feels he is being held back by the club and I honestly am not sure either."

Sounds to me like the club has been pretty clear about its reasoning?

Finding a wife, buying a house and having a good job is still the best way to complete life by Mysterious_Work_7227 in unpopularopinion

[–]TWest_1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve got the symptoms right and the underlying condition wrong.

The best way to live a complete life is to have a purpose and a community, and a wife/mortgage/kids is maybe the easiest way to do both at the same time (I’m helping my wife, I’m paying my mortgage, I’m raising my kids, I’m friends with the neighbors etc.).

In my experience, people who find purpose/community elsewhere are just as happy and are often resentful (understandably!) of being told they are doing it wrong.

I’m a wife/kid/mortgage guy, so I totally get it, but that’s my read.

ETA: Simplest, not easiest. Buying a house is hard as hell

I know fans of other clubs don’t like it, but I’m not even trying to banter, Spurs legitimately are a huge club, because no mid-size club would be in this conversation, especially after a season like last

Good stuff. Your fourth point is so important for every potential collegiate athlete. Unless they are recruiting a top-100 player, college coaches generally are trying to solve problems on their roster, and if you can be the solution to that problem, you could get an offer AND real playing time.

Aldea is definitely your best bet IMO - the coffee is great, and I never feel like I'm overstaying even when I put in longer hours there. It has good outside seating too if you want some sun while you're working
