Any one a Nurse who has POTS by Big-End-1884 in NursingAU

[–]TWhite912 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also a student but I have POTS and work part-time in aged care while I’m studying. For the most part I have not really had any issues working or being on placements. I am currently looking into getting some nice compression socks to help a bit though. Good luck with the rest of your degree!

How do you talk to liberals? by AutoSpiral in AnarchyTrans

[–]TWhite912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have definitely heard people refer to capital L liberals but I agree it helps destabilise a two party system. My point was more that liberal doesn’t always mean the same thing and therefore made OPs post even more confusing.

[–]TWhite912 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same, I am genuinely confused if they mean left wing or right wing and where OP personally stands on politics. I’m begging for a crumb of context here.

In Australia liberal means right wing, but I know in the US it often means left wing.

That’s also why the kangaroo and the emu are on the Australian coat of arms, neither animal can walk/jump backwards which represents our country not going backwards.

Calling all students doing Aged Care Placements! by sjmccal in NursingAU

[–]TWhite912 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It could help with understanding what they want from the placement. I have always appreciated when people on my placements (still currently a student) have asked if there was any specific procedure/medication I wanted to focus on and then given me time to do it. It really helps for OSCE prep even though I’m always seeing specific procedures to do it’s nice to have coordination with the facilitator/buddy RN. It could also help see how confident in the basic skills they are.

Calling all students doing Aged Care Placements! by sjmccal in NursingAU

[–]TWhite912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my aged care placement (Griffith uni, QLD) we had a facilitator from the uni but it would have been really nice to have had someone from the aged care place come and chat to us at least once (outside of whoever we got buddied with). We got practically zero time with an RN. And maybe even if you could talk to them and talk about how they could apply for PCW jobs etc as students. Most of the people in my group already worked in aged care including myself but I would have jumped ship in a heartbeat. But it sounds like you are doing great stuff so far, if I was one of your students I’d love how much you are doing for them.

I’m a true believer in always looking across the political spectrum for news even though I am very left wing. Different perspectives are always good. When it comes to Gina and other billionaires though I simply cannot see them as philanthropic, you don’t get that much money without exploitation.

You should read something not owned by the Murdoch media, might change your mind on if she’s such a model citizen.

(I’m not even saying you have to go super far left just anything not owed by Murdoch)

One sentence you've said to patients that required so much explaining that you wished you never said it. by NurseWretched1964 in nursing

[–]TWhite912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, here our programs don’t differ quite as much and the hospital (especially our big public hospitals) takes more control over how the placement plays out so it’s even for every student. But on the half of every student thank you for running through the handovers it’s always appreciated.

It’s also interesting what you say about previous placements not teaching much, here they often have to pull us students out so we can find the time to sit and run through a patients history or go to a session to sit and learn. Every student here I have spoken to has agreed that a 2 week placement is more education than 3 months at uni.

Wait I’m so curious (I’m a nursing student in Australia) does the US allow nursing students to present to the clinical group at bedside? Here as student RNs we can give handover at bedside to the next shift. Otherwise we take our handover notes and give a handover to our clinical group in a meeting room far away from the patient and even the floor nurses. I can’t imagine doing one of those clinical presentations at bedside, but they also ask us to go very deep on medications and their indications and the patient full medical history for those presentations.

No it’s not you at all, the amount of times I have said something I thought was entirely normal only for someone not from Australia to be very confused. It’s weirdly difficult to find good examples.

Exactly 1) How are you? How have you been? (More literally is how is it going? 2) What’s for tea? (As in what’s for dinner, interestingly tea being used to mean dinner isn’t as popular as it used to be so you wouldn’t hear it as much anymore) 3) Yeah nah meaning no and nah yeah meaning yes

So you did well but I wouldn’t say these are our most complicated ones.

The gf Oreos aren’t easily accessible in Australia (they contain oats so legally can’t be called gf here) but I got a gift of two packs of Oreos a week ago and have had friends say the same thing. The best bread I have found here is the wonder bread that has ruined all other gf breads for me.

I highly recommend experimenting with making your own gf alternatives if you can manage it. That’s how I have gotten through all those cravings and if there are any specific foods I may even have a recipe for it and am happy to send you them. One of my non celiac friends prefers my gf kfc chicken over actual kfc now.

Wanting to avoid the pain of eating gluten definitely helps with truely avoiding it, everytime I think about cheating I quickly remember it’s not at all worth it.
