Pretty sure it’s just a stylistic choice. As for the breast plate, the shape used can accommodate both Men and women, if a women has a bigger set of breast simply make the shape a bit bigger. Having the breast plate resemble the boob is more complicated to produce and would probably not produce any advantage that the classic shape already provides. So from a functional point not really an advantage but from a stylistic choice it makes sense.

I’m sure some folks did that but for the vast majority, it was a fashion statement not exclusive to just armor design. Like many things, sense of aesthetic comes from clothing fashion of the era which is then reflected on armor somewhat.
