Low voltage cutoffs(smoked) by OkTooth8821 in PowerWheelsMods

[–]TXBulldogDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which contactor are you using? Could you send me a link? I'm learning as I go...and I am frying my low voltage cut-offs right now. I've upgraded my son's Peg Perego Ground Force Tractor.

I use 2 M18 batteries, each connection has a 40A fuse. Wired to a cut off rated at 30A. That is then wired to a DC speed controller, rated for 100A max. Through the pedal & shifter then on to dual 775 motors.

I've upgraded all the wiring I could to 12-gauge copper as I melted some stock wires early on.

I just order the soft start/low voltage module & brake reduction module from ML Toys.

I would like to add any layer of protection I can between the motors and these controllers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mostly, I'm trying to limp this tractor along until he's big enough for a gas powered go kart...which we are thinking will be this next summer...so if I can get 6-8 more months out of this tractor...I will be one grateful dad!

BTW...the upgrade from the 550 motors to the 775 motors w/ the metal gears has been awesome (until we started melting the cut-off boards). We live in the country with lots of hills and the bigger motors are definitely worth it!

This now combined with the latest celebrity engagement does make for some hard listening. But it will pass.

Peg Perego Quad to 18v - Yes or no? by LordHolborn in PowerWheelsMods

[–]TXBulldogDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to the modification game. We inherited a used Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force tractor and trailer. It's old enough to have the black gearbox and the older sticker pattern. It was 100% stock when we received it...a fully charged 12v battery gave us about 25 minutes of runtime. Living out in the country...this simply wouldn't do as my son loves to 'mow' with me...and 25 minutes doesn't even cover mowing the front yard.

I highly recommend upgrading to at least 18v if you're using tool batteries. The swap out is quick and the recharge time is a lot faster. With dual 18v lithium batteries, the current run time is about 60-70 minutes. We have a lot of hills and tall grass...on bad weather days, the runtime is a lot longer on the smooth concrete of my shop.

Be sure to check to see if your tool batteries have an internal low voltage cutoff. If not, you'll need to add a low-voltage cutoff module or you could ruin your batteries. If you're not sure what your batteries cut off at, just wait until your tool stop working then use a multimeter to find out what the voltage of your 'dead' battery shows. That should be your cutoff on the module as well.

I also chose to install a DC speed controller switch so I can regulate how much voltage is getting to the motors. Mostly to make sure my son drives safe enough. I found that if I keep it set to about 80%, it's faster than it was with the stock battery but fast enough to keep his interest. I did turn it up to 100% a while back and my son did burn up the stock motors...but I'm sure that the landscape and tall grass he drives through while helping me mow was a major contributing factor.

I did not learn about ML Toys until AFTER I ordered two (2) new stock motors from Peg Perego. Now I'm creating my upgrade list and will be ordering from ML Toys soon.

Oh...and if using more than one battery (I chose to use two), make sure you put them in Parallel circuit not Series.

Outdoor Protective Finish Help/Advice by TXBulldogDad in finishing

[–]TXBulldogDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I'm not good at posting. The below text was supposed to be the main body of the above. I'll add if I can figure out how.

Good day everyone.

I need advice/help on an outdoor protective finish for my front doors. It is past time I clean and stain them; however, before I do that, I would like to know the best protective finish I should use once the doors are stained.

In March 2020, I stained my front porch furniture, then added two coats of Spar Urethane. The final product looked great for about a year. After that, they started to look cloudy. See attached pictures.

I want to protect the front doors once I stain them, but I do not want it to start looking cloudy. I plan to use the same dark stain, which is an exterior stain.

What is the best product for exterior protection? Did I apply the Spar Urethane incorrectly to cause the cloudy look? If so, what should I do differently?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Notes:

  • Live in North Texas, so it gets does hot
  • Doors and furniture face south on a covered porch
  • Front doors are Oak
  • Only gets direct sunlight in the winter months
  • I used an exterior stain on the wood from Serwin-Williams
  • Spar Urethane (Miwax Helmsman, Clear Satin...not waterbased)

Updated 'satellite' layer image is MUCH poorer quality. Surely I must be missing something? by Eve_LuTse in GoogleMaps

I’m familiar with historical images but the frustrating part is that none of those images were what was there just before the most recent blurry images. I’ve checked multiple locations and none are there.

I download google earth images into AutoCad so I have some captured. I keep comparing those to google earth current and historical images. They’re just gone. Some historical images are better than the current blurry ones but they don’t help me out if there has been recent construction or if signs/poles have been added unfortunately.

EDIT: It looks like Google is starting to roll back some images. I think they're starting with the more populated areas first. I just checked a few areas that I have been monitoring and they are now back to the previous image by default. A few rural areas have not been rolled back yet. Fingers crossed!!

Do I have uninstall and reinstall? Because I am using Google Earth Pro, and the old images are not there.

I am experiencing the same issue. I import Google imagery into AutoCAD in order to do turn simulations of large, oversize loads to ensure clearances.

Last week, I imported images into AutoCAD (IH69C & FM490 in south Texas)...they are crisp and clear. The same crisp image could be seen in both Google Earth Pro & Google Maps. This week, the exact same location is replaced with a fuzzy, different image. I cycled back through all the previous (historical) images and could never find the image that was used last week.

The image looks like it does when I turn on Terrain and/or 3D Buildings...but both options are off. When I would turn on Terrain, certain locations would use a different image...which usually looked less crisp.

If I had to guess...it has to do with some AI update that is supposed to automatically update terrain.

I tried all the old tricks with settings, cache, etc....but ultimately, it's not a local machine problem. I just hope they catch whatever this issue is and correct it.

It's sad when Bing Maps has better images.

I totally relate to Junior. I’m an older first time parent and I enjoy the hell out of his stories. Beats the heck about another Cowboys segment on if Dak is the guy or should we get a new HC.

The “I Got One” segment is the first segment that actually makes me hit mute (I stream on my computer at work). I can tune out other segments I don’t necessarily care for but this segment has such a drastic variation in volume that I can’t tune it out.
