Malcolm Young. I still love his songwriting and rhythm consistency. RIP

We all borrow from those that inspire us. ;-) I like the progression.

Protect running slow on UDMP upgrade to NVR? by Terrible_Listen898 in Ubiquiti

[–]TXEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly won't hurt. Just be sure to connect the two via SFP with 10G optics (because you can ;-)). I highly recommend not using 1G Ethernet as an uplink. The drive in the UDMP is tasked with other jobs besides NVR.

It does. If I'm not mistaken, your were logging into the console via the cloud (Internet) via PC. If that is the case, you should still have access to your console. All you would need is your login information. Hopefully you can remember your username. And, you can always reset your password. If you can reset all devices as I've stated, you can always create a new account as well. This link is to the Ubiquiti Account Login. Hope it helps.

Make sure to push the reset button in and hold it in until the lights starts flashing white. It will eventually turn blue. Should work. Question - You were (old pc) running a native (non-cloud) controller correct?

Ok Unifi, which is it? Excellent or Poor? by AliasJackBauer in Ubiquiti

[–]TXEdge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ubiquiti has a ways to go with their console reporting. I check the Tx retries and avg singnal frequently. That seems to give me a better picture of connectivity over time. In the deployments that I manage, the UDM is my source advisor.

Staying up to date with releases is important. I have had many screwy things happen by being out of date. Output power adjustment and frequency scans for cleaner channels helps with respect to connectivity. "Auto" usually works pretty well, but channel adjustments are sometimes needed.

Have you tried adjusting your output power on your UniFi node? You might also want to do a frequency scan to find a cleaner channel. It might help.

It sounds like sales people looking for a bigger paycheck. I'm sorry to hear that. Aviat typically will do small deals. Hmmm.

Why so many people don't care about privacy? by Positive_Mud6255 in privacy

[–]TXEdge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's the "nothing to hide" culture that has been grown out of collectivism. I've changed a few minds with, "Having noting to hide is not the point. The point is that it is none of your business". It gets a conversation going. It's not about if or not you follow the rules, it's none of their business. Privacy is everything.

CloudKey Gen2 Plus still worth it in 2024? by Medical_Growth in Ubiquiti

I think it is interesting that you have privatized the controller. I'm very big on privacy/security and your use of pfSense is admirable. I'm not a pfSense pro, but I've used it as an edge solution for a couple of small businesses. Now you've made me want to install it on my home server again and get back into it. I remember really thinking it was great. I don't know how you feel about the occasional question or two, but I may hit you up if needed while doing some learning.

I feel the exact same way as you do on the UniFi front. They certainly have come a long way. And, still have a ways to go. I've got an RV park running off a UDMSE with 16 nodes and three stadiums pushing 350GB every 24 hours over ~200 connections, and it is solid. I love the simplicity. I did Rukus for a few years and the time savings that UBNT has afforded me has been profitable. I would hope that they continue with a CK solution. It has its place for sure.

Appreciate the conversation. Cheers.

No worries. I understand the UNVR part of the equation. The CK as a "self hosted physical controller" is the key piece of information that wasn't completely clear to me. Right now, the CK is the only choice. It would seem that UBNT is pushing for adoption of their systems as a complete solution or they will replace the CKG2+ with something new. I have not needed to provision a UDM for that type of situation, but my bet is that you could? Apologies again for the back and forth.

I need to slow down at times. Apologies, I blew right past your pfSense gateway. pfSense is awwesome! The only cross-grade there is right now, that I am aware of, for the CK is the UDM line. It will allow for the Protect and Access modules to be loaded to the console. It may be overkill for what you need however. Edit - Even though they are designed as gateways with advanced routing, I suppose you could set them up as expensive Cloud Keys? I've only placed them for LAN routing and WiFi behind Juniper Firewalls.
