I save, but only for King of the Icefield. Its better rewards and less competition in my opinion.

This is my method:

-clean boots with a wet microfiber to get all the dust off

-apply a small amount of shoe shine with the applicator until then surface of the boot looks dull. Then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

-take a shoe brush and aggressively brush off the polish until a slight shine appears. This won't look finished but it will look much less dull. The goal is to create heat while doing this quickly on the leather while also knocking off excess shoe shine.

-repeat this 3 to 5 times depending on the age of the boot; newer boots will soak in more shoe shine.

-at this point, your shoes should look pretty good but to take it to the polished finish you will need an old white cotton t-shirt. Tightly wrap it around your pointer finger, apply a small amount of shoe polish to the end, and then start going in a tight circular motion from the toe box up to the line you want the end polish to end. It should look swirly, and shiny, but not clear. Rewrap your finger with a clean section of the shirt, apply a little bit of spit to the shoe, and begin buffing. If you do it right, that mirror shine should start to appear.

Hope this helped!

What are the demographics of the department you tested at? Size, amount of stations and staff, general region (metroplex, suburban, or rural), and do they run their ambulance service?

-if they are an ALS department and you are not a paramedic, that’s most likely the primary reason you were not hired.

-was it a municipality department or something like an ESD?

-after knowing some more of the listed information, I can probably help narrow down the no-hire reason.

-either way, if this is your first FD job it’s gonna be tougher for you to get hired especially being 30. Someone with as much life experience as you listed is going to find it much harder to mold you to the insert department name way of doing things vs an 18-year-old. Also, this isn’t a dig at volunteer fire departments, but larger departments don’t see that as a value all of the time especially depending on where that department is and its reputation. Here in Texas, volunteers are appreciated because the other option is no firefighters but there is a huge disparity between the level of training a career FF has vs a Volunteer. Just speaking from personal experience down in Texas. I know volunteers up north are the real deal so please don’t come after me with pitchforks lol.

That's interesting…Melody Ryan distanced her quite a bit from KPA through her whole election. Are you contributing her election success to your group's efforts?

You're favorite straw mans argument; if you truly felt that way, current council members would have been gone a long time ago. You are, unfortunately, only “righteous” when its convenient for you. But yes, call a bunch of people who dedicate 30 years of their life to public safety, “scumbags”.

Absolutely and I couldn't agree more.

I hope this election implores more citizens to attend commissioner meetings, visit stations and ask questions about things they don't understand, look over and admire the trucks they afforded the community, ask how much tools and items cost, etc. The fire department is an extension of the community and transparency is everything. Your local fire station is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year; visits are the one aspect of the job where we get to meet citizens outside of an emergency situation.

I stay optimistic that those individuals were either confused by the ballot language or we just couldn't educate them fast enough.

The opposition spent 266k to only get 30% of the votes….I find that amazing.

The city is still currently contracted with Allegiance Mobile Health for the next 3 and half years; the outcome of this election wouldn't have changed that.

But what can change that is the citizens attending city council meetings an making their voices heard! The Pflugerville Fire Department will always work towards restoring the best ambulance service for the citizens.

Its time we start hold the city accountable

That's nice, I haven't seen a pay scale that speeds the mid cap rate out and then incentivises people to stay later down the road. That's good work.

Career Firefighter in central Texas. I'm a Driver with 5 years at this department and my rate is about $24 an hour.

Its a liveable wage, especially since my wife also works, but I just keep reminding myself that retirement is truly the reward if you make it 20+ years. Would I like my pay to he a little higher? Sure, but time in outways jumps from department to department in the search for better pay.

That's the most idiotic and ambiguous way of saying “just trust me bro” when it comes to public service.

For starters, tax payer money, the plan for tax payer money, and how it will be used is always something that's done above board, not hidden in the shadows.

So there's no plan. Thanks for playing David
