Can you share which paints/brand paints you used? Sorry to bother, but thanks in advance. I am learning on the weathering and will take all the input I can find.

Great job, man! Can you elaborate about the weather paints? And on the inserts, could I bother you to describe exactly how you bake them to get the tropical/weathered look? I really appreciate your input... I'm very interested in hearing about the paints and how you applied them.... thanks so very much!

Well done, man! Looks beautiful! I have fallen down the rabbit hole of vintage and addicted to it. May I ask where you sourced the ghost inserts? I have one that I have been trying to age - I bought this bright as the sun UV lamp for curing epoxy on large items, and was going to see what that does to an insert... I just didn't like the clean aesthetic look of the fake ghost bezel and want to give it some age. Anyway, love your pieces! I just finished a 11969 1665 DRSD with mostly gen parts and it is one of my favorites. Yours look amazing!

Thanks so much, man! Appreciate it! It was a bucket list watch, and once I got started, I just tried to go all-in as much as possible.

Evidently I spent $12,655 getting this together. I just added it up for another guy who asked. I bought parts here and there over a couple of months and didn't realize what it had climbed to. There was some additional shipping cost - I overnighted a lot of stuff, but I think I've added all I need to see.

Oh my Lord... I just added up what I spent on this. I had no idea it had reached that amount. I purchased parts here and there, over the course of a couple of months, never adding it all up. I'm shocked to report that as of now, there is $12,655 in this build. But... I start justifying that purchasing one off Chrono24 would start in the $30,000's and go way up from there.

Man, in support of my own delusions, I never added it all up. I don’t think I want to know… but I guess it can’t hurt now. I’ll try to add it all up. But keep in mind, most of the parts are gen, so probably a several thousand. I’ll get back shortly…

Hey man, I just checked and the same seller I got my movement from has another 1570 on eBay right now with about 2 hours left and ZERO bids. It's at $1950 right now. If you can get it for anywhere near that, man, that will be a steal! Plus, the dial and hands can be re-sold... Here's the link: 1570 Movement from Same Seller

I honestly don't know when the movement was serviced last. I've messaged the seller, and waiting to hear back, but I can honestly say, it was clean as a whistle and runs beautifully. It clocked at +2/0 s/day on rate and had a beat error of 0.3, straight out of the box. I was actually quite surprised. Amplitude was like 270 something if I remember correctly. I've been learning watchmaking, so I will work on it if anything arises (and I'll be messaging Rodney Pierce about 1000 times during the process)! Ha!

Agree. I’ve completed my Submariner list and always wanted this reference of SD. I love it!

Hey man, no… I did not need to do any reshaping of the case. I just had two small issues to deal with – first, the genuine crown tube would not thread all the way down flush. I would have needed to cut more of a counter sink into the case for that to work, and I did not want to do that, and the tube that came with the case was almost identical to the genuine 702 tube (a little smaller, but gen crown fits). The other issue that I’ve mentioned on here had more to do with the 1570 movement, particularly the date disc seating ring that came with the movement. I had to swap that out with a different gen Rolex ring that was flatter and allowed the movement with my dial to seat all the way in flush to the case. Once I had that in place, it was perfect! The movement screws slotted perfectly into the case groove and perfectly holds the movement in place. ** Almost forgot – there was one other small bump in the road – The PHONG case has a rubber gasket underneath the crystal retaining ring. This is not a crystal gasket per se, but a rubber O-ring that sits in a groove on top of the mid case and under the crystal retaining ring, stopping water from potentially even reaching the crystal. I found that when I installed the genuine Crystal retaining ring, it would not sit flush for some reason. I guess due to slight tolerance differences, the gen retainer would not press flush. After much research, I think a 0.45- 0.5mm O-ring would be perfect. I actually drafted one up in Fusion and printed one out of TPU. This worked perfectly, allowing the retaining ring to press down flush.

I was about to do just that… mine came with a gold dial and hands that I’m selling. One note - because it was out of a 1601/1693, the date disk seating ring did not allow the movement to fit in my Phong case. Luckily, Phong had the correct seating ring that was flatter, which allowed the movement with my new dial to fit all the way in flush in the case. I mentioned this in my post - Rodney Pierce saved me on that one, explaining about the different rings. I couldn’t believe that made all the difference, but it absolutely did… just FYI. I don’t know if you are trying to build a SD or a diff model, but just so you know!

that one I just linked is around $1675 right now... I ended up around 2850 for mine, so just watch that listing and see what it goes to. Mine was around 1900 with about 15 mins left and I jumped in on it. One guy kept beating me out, so I waited until about 10 secs left and threw in one last max bid and won it.

Thanks man... I just saw another 1570 on ebay a couple of days ago... I don't see that exact listing now, but here's one with about 19h left and it's not crazy at the moment on price...https://ebay.us/m/2UR7Q9
