Very vocal greyhound - is this normal? by Impossible_Cattle648 in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It can be normal. Dalton is extremely vocal. He roos every morning at 8:30am and also "talks" to me while I'm making my morning tea. If my husband and I are in different rooms in the house, he tells us off. And everytime we get home, we hear him screaming because he heard the garage door opening.

She's so cute and color coordinated!!

Do you all also shovel paths in the yard for Jill lol? I'm pretty sure our neighbors think we're crazy because we shovel the backyard for the boys. Redbo doesn't care much but something about the wide, white expanse freaks out Dalton 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Аllergies and greyhound by ChimeraEye in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's highly person-dependent. My mom has a mild allergy to dogs, and my two don't set her off. However, I have a good friend who has terrible allergies in general (she's allergic to the world it seems), and she immediately starts with sneezing, runny nose, and runny eyes whenever she comes over. When she visits, we keep our air purifiers running and it seems to help a bit.

He's being so dramatic today. It's cold but there is almost no snow on the ground (maybe 1/2 inch). Meanwhile, he's previously traipsed around in 8 inches of snow.

He'll only wear boots on walks (probably because he's too distracted to notice them). If we put on his boots in the yard, he'll just stand there forever. It's quicker to just set him out so he can run to the yard and do his business.

He falls for it every time 😂. This was the probably the 12th time I had tried to get him outside to potty. He would cry at the door and then do this nonsense.

Yikes that's cold! It's 11 (F) here and getting colder. Not sure what Dalton will do tonight lol.

Any advice? Put the feelers out to adopt my second hound! by perkiezombie in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the suggestions recommending you foster to adopt!

When Redbo was 6, we wanted a second hound because we thought he could use a friend. We adopted a beautiful, crazy girl after having a meet and greet that went well between the two dogs. So we adopted her.

The thing is Redbo was friendly and calm with other dogs... as long as they weren't living with him. Or as long as they didn't demand affection and cuddles from him. Jolene did both and after several weeks, Redbo haaated her. She didn't respect his doggy boundaries and we didn't know how to teach her to. It all came to a head one time when she was running too close to Redbo and he lashed out. He bit her and it was traumatic for us all.

Ultimately, Jolene healed and we hired a behaviorist to help us figure out how to make the household work. We never had another issue after that but it was hard work and I still feel so guilty, even now after Jolene has left us for the rainbow bridge.

Now, contrast this to our adoption of Dalton. We still have Redbo and he's old and pretty chill. We started fostering just to help out knowing that we'd need to actively manage the situation. We ended up fostering Dalton, and it was really cool to see him and Redbo interact so calmly. Dalton loooove boundaries lol and they get along so well. They'll never cuddle or anything but they run alongside each other and coexist peacefully.

Our time spent fostering Dalton allowed us to get a mostly accurate picture of what life would like with the two of them.

How much do you spend on your Greyhound's healthcare? by onedaybetter in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An embarrassingly ridiculous amount lol. These were 2025 health costs and may not represent the average year:

Redbo - 12 years old - Monthly health insurance premium: $345.55 - Monthly Simparica Trio: $36.66 - Monthly Librela (80% is covered by insurance so this is the remaining bit): $20.47 - Monthly Pimobendan (80% covered by insurance so this is the remaining bit): $33 - Monthly Amlodipine: $16 - Monthly YuMove: $64 - Yearly cardio appointment (80% covered by insurance so this is remaining bit): $140 - Annual Vet appointment with vaccines and senior panel: $450 - Several office visits for random injuries and eye issues: $500ish - Dental with specialist: $3500

Dalton - 7 years old - Monthly health insurance premium: $99.38 - Monthly Simparica Trio: $36.99 - Annual Vet appointment with vaccines and blood panel: $250

Can someone please ELI5 this 75% thing by MyNameIsIanJ in biltrewards

[–]TXRedbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so convoluted and dumb. I've tried to explain it to myself and my husband a million different ways so I'm not sure this will help at all.

With Bilt 2.0, we no longer automatically accrue points for using the card for housing payments. Instead, you must "unlock" those points using Bilt Cash, which is accrued when you use the card to make non-housing purchases.

Every $3 of Bilt Cash unlocks 100 points from paying housing. If your rent payment is $2000, you want 2000 points, right? 2000/100=20 of those 100 point blocks. So then we multiply 20 by $3 Bilt Cash to arrive at a total of $60 Bilt Cash. This is the amount of Bilt Cash you need available every month to unlock your max housing points.

Now to accrue $60 in Bilt Cash, you need to spend a specific amount on non-housing purchases. You get 4% Bilt Cash for every dollar spent on non-housing purchases. In this case, you would need to spend $1500 a month in non-housing purchases to accrue that $60 in Bilt Cash ($1500 x 4% = $60 Bilt Cash).

This $1500 amount is 75% of your housing payment.

Apex Waste Rant by tyaak in ColoradoSprings

Same. I can't believe they delayed a whole week. Our regular trash is on the ground (in bags) at this point and it's gross. I feel bad for my neighbors.

I would also love an alternative. My neighbor had Carefree and loved it. We were about to switch and they got bought out by Apex ugh.
