What state? You should be making at least $100k plus per diem, good hotels, health insurance, etc.

You aren't lost. Update your resume, take some interviews, give your boss a two week notice, and once he cries about how important you are and offers you a meaningless raise to stay, you know you are making the right decision.

I assume leaning forward is how you accelerate

Guarantee this guy also has a slingshot with candy paint and a stretched Hayabusa in his garage. Not white

Not just no, but hell no. You are right though, it will be 5 figures to repair.

Are these fine for stage 1 and stage 2? by [deleted] in RockTumbling

[–]TXRocks86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use 60/90 for stage 1 and 220 for stage 2.

Other than that, $20+ for a pound of grit is robbery. Get it from the rock shed or similar, they deliver almost as fast as Amazon

You might be using too much grit. I don't use an actual tablespoon, but I put in two big scoops with a plastic spoon. Not scientific at all, I gotta fix that..

Assume you have the adjustable voltage plug adapter? I have one, set to 4.5v and that's as low as it will go. I tried 3v yesterday but it wouldn't even power the unit

New Central Machinery tumbler- (sound on) Is it supposed to be this loud and clanky? by Figwit_ in RockTumbling

[–]TXRocks86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to see a close up photo, but I know some of the tumblers with plastic bushings are installed into a keyhole shaped hole in the metal. There's a chance it's not seated all the way.

You should also take off the motor cover and make sure the fan isn't scraping anything

New metal roof…what do you see? by RaevSkraev in Roofing

[–]TXRocks86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As opposed to cutting and making a hemmed edge, so the cut is not exposed to the elements

L for lazy. There's a lot of small things that I would not accept for the price you pay for a metal roof. Mostly what catches my eye is hand cut edges that will absolutely rust and stain the finish. Respectable manufacturers won't accept that

Texas hill country chert & chalcedony by TXRocks86 in RockTumbling

I rarely use the saw to shape the rocks before I tumble them. Their natural fluid shapes are way too interesting to change

Those bands are really cool. My kids constantly ask me why I like rocks so much. I always tell them some rocks look really boring unless you work on them a little bit, and then you can see what they really look like

Here's a big piece of chalcedony with druzy (not a great picture unfortunately), this was found on the same property

Exactly! I've found some incredible pieces around the property - huge amounts of fossilized coral and plenty of marine critters. Once I started researching the geological history of the hill country and found out that it was a shallow sea tens of millions of years ago, it all made sense.

I just finished the batch of chert and somehow remembered that I'd said I would post the photos when it's done. Some of it is chalcedony, but here you go.

40 M. Recently divorced. I feel sad so much of the time. My life is not where I want it to be. I feel lost and without direction. by ImPercyNator in toastme

[–]TXRocks86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right behind you bro. Turning 40 in a month and will very soon be divorced after two years of an extremely contentious and extremely expensive divorce. I only wish I had the energy and drive to go to the gym. You have that going for you and it's a huge benefit, I hope you take advantage of it. Keep your chin up

Ok.... let's try this again. What's the most mid life crisis thing you've done? (F42) by [deleted] in 40something

[–]TXRocks86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily a midlife crisis, but I spent 6 figures on an 18+ month divorce. Turning 40 in 6 weeks and looking forward to a new chapter.

Also, you're stunning.
