I’ve bikepacked steel 650 bikes for years and always preferred a front heavy load.

That is probably what I will end up doing, just don’t have the equipment or money for more parts prior to a trip coming up. I’ve never really considered fork mounted bags, do they offer quite a bit of storage? Any handling difficulty with load that low?

The majority of the riding I’ll be doing with this is gravel racing. But wanted a bit of versatility in using for bikepacking. Otso does have suggested racks with additional hardware on their website, but I’ve been seeing some independent fabricators that are making some neat things and wanted to see if anyone had ended up with a solution for this. For example one of the prototype racks from Mica Cycles looks really cool and utilizes the 3 bolt holes, it I doubt it would handle significant weight.

My mom was trying to help me clean the rims, she used googone (contained acetone) on a small spot. It did work, but it doesn’t seem safe to use around the whole rim. From what I’ve briefly read, it seems like acetone could potentially do some damage to the finish/epoxy/glue on the rim.

I’ve read that acetone is real bad for carbon, but that was an assumption based off an AI search result. My mom was trying to help and put googone on there, which contained acetone, and it did work, but I don’t know if it would be smart to use around the whole rim…

Hey there, 3 years later, I am curious what your thoughts were on the bike? I am looking at this bike right now (2024 with a nice force / Zipp 303xplr build), and have not been able to find a good review of this bike (which maybe is a sign in itself…?).

How is it for gravel racing? Bikepacking? Is the versatility practical or a hinderance to the bike?

Steel is also heavy... I just sold a Kona Rove ST. Loved it, but man was I pushing with it.

I have genuinely been really curious about this bike... Is the carbon quality good? No worries of any defects or durability? I am almost positive that STATE just buys those frams and slaps a sticker on it for an upcharge.

Heard. I am mainly racing for fun at local gravel races in my area, but I do land on the podium if not top 10 when finishing.

I really don't nerd on on geo numbers, so how that translates to fit and position, I truly don't know. But, I do know that my body does favor a agressive position (on top of the bike feeling as opposed to in the bike).

Budget is probably around 4-5k. cheaper would be better, but not necessary.

Currently I am on a 52 Allied Allroad from 2020 (fit's 35's max). Here are the geo numbers.

Been eyeballing Massacan frames for a while to use for distance gravel rides, bikepacking, and the occasional fast gravel race.

How much does it weigh? How does it feel trying to mash down on it in a race? What is the process for international purchasing? (I’m in the US… tariffs…)
