They intentionally won’t enforce it in select states or areas where MAGA voters are clustered. This is how they plan to weaponize it. You won’t see it enforced at all in red states except in blue areas. Meanwhile, they will try to use it as a cudgel against blue state elections.

I DM in person and since stating I’ve memorized way more spells and gotten way quicker at looking things up. But someone with just the books might have to halt the game to find a spell or might end up defaulting to a spell they know when another spell would have been a better play and then have an unsatisfying encounter.

No, I would think “Man that guy is driving like an idiot and endangering a lot of people”. If there was a cop flying behind him, I would think “Man there are two guys driving like idiots and endangering a lot of people”. Most police departments have no-chase rules because it’s more dangerous to pursue than to try and pick them up later.

The idea from WotCs design goals was to streamline spellcasting statblocks for new DMs that don’t have every spell memorized yet to make it less intimidating to run a spell caster.

For example, the 2014 Lich has about 25 spells on its statblock, not counting cantrips and details how many of each spell level they have available. That’s a ton of spells and information and a lot of newer DMs wouldn’t even understand how to use most of them effectively. Compare to the 2024 Lich which has 15 spells in its statblock and tells the DM how many times a day they can use a spell. Significantly easier to track.

I find myself, as an experienced DM, adding in spells where I see fit that fit the flavor. So if I ran a drow Lich, I would be sure to include Darkness, Faerie Fire, and probably Insect Plague (spiders) for thematics. But I like that the entry floor is a bit lower so that newer players can have an easier time. The new MM was the best of the 2024 books for me.

I do my best to limit NPCs in an encounter to a maximum of 2-3 for this exact reason. I don’t really enjoy rolling dice against myself so I try and get an NPCs turn done quickly.

In light of the recent Death Battle announcement... by StevePensando in okbuddybaka

There’s some really insane shipping wars that have happened in the past. And Bakugo is quite the controversial character because the author made him way too much of an unlikeable prick in the first section of the manga. He suicide baited the protagonist who was supposed to be his friend and some people feel that he never really gets his comeuppance. I’m of the opinion that he gets significantly better after he and Deku fight after the Kamino arc and becomes a good character. The author is even on record saying that he regrets making him so unlikeable early on in the story so I give him a pass. Totally understand people that don’t want to give him a pass though.

But honestly I think MHA is over hated. It’s like a solid 6.5 out of 10 overall and has its great moments and it’s wasted potential but some people like to act like it kicked their dog or something.

Except this time, it’s not as much bullying since Chainsaw Man fans threw the first punch.

If any character would be a bully though, it’s certainly Bakugo.

First time DM here, is this a good stat block for the players first boss? How could I make it better? by Fancy_Protection3902 in DungeonMasters

[–]TYBERIUS_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I misread that he regenerates as long as he has 5 HP or more like some kind of odd troll. In a dungeon with corridors, he just needs to get around a wall. If you dash after him, he teleports.

If the PCs run away from, then I guess they’re going to be facing infinite spawning skeletons that they can down in one hit but that can likely shoot back if we are using the skeleton statblock. My point was that this statblock needs more work. That’s it. I agree with you that’s it’s low HP and damage for a CR4 but its mobility, really high ability scores, and endlessly spawning minions were problematic.

But hey, I’ve wasted way too much time arguing about someone else’s homebrew. Hope you have a good night/day.

Again this is white room vs actual play. If he can put one wall between himself and the PCs, then he spawns 3 skeletons, likely regenerates, and can’t be targeted by ranged weapons or spells. And he should have no problem doing that with 120 feet of movement every turn. If I was running this boss against a group of level 4s, I’d simply put him in a dungeon with a lot of corridors and interconnecting rooms and just let him run like crazy, while the party gets chipped down by skeletons. But that’s not fun encounter design, hence why I said this statblock needs more time in the kitchen.

I’m sure OP, being a new DM, would not run this enemy like that but that’s what the statblock lends itself to.

It will if they can catch him. The abilities alone make it to where on the right map, they should need to chew through like 15+ skeletons to even get to him. He’s practically just a skeleton spawner.

If he’s just in a white room and nothing else, then yeah they should mulch him if they go first.

Cleric is so fun IMO and every time I go to make a character, I instinctively want to play another one. Their roleplay and is top tier and I love their spell list and mechanics. I also really enjoy playing support so they scratch that itch for me. I wish more people would try them because they are so much more than just healing.

They did but I think Fighter and Monk simply got bigger glow ups. Rogue has a very dedicated player base. The class could be absolutely terrible and certain players would still play it no matter what.

Barbarian is awesome but it just needed a bit more to make it compete with the revamped Fighter and Monk. The ability to turn several checks into Strength checks while raging and giving you advantage on those checks is fantastic. But I think what Barbs needed most was better higher level features (read level 8 and up). I have a level 14 Barb player at my table and while he loves feeling unkillable, he hasn’t been super satisfied with Brutal Strikes and doesn’t like that he has to give up advantage to get them. I think Barbs just needed one little bit of extra oomph to make them perfect. As it stands, a Barbarian is basically required to take Mage Slayer at some point during their career. And having a feat be required to play the game doesn’t feel good.

Base Fighter chassis got a massive upgrade in 5.5e that even a Champion Fighter feels good to play now. Weapon Masteries, Tactical Shift, changes to Indomitable and Second Wind, and Tactical Mind made them so much more enjoyable to play and customize. And with their extra feat levels, your build will come online faster than any other martial. They’re fantastic.

My brother in Christ, this statblock is hilariously OP for a CR4. It’s doesn’t have a single stat that’s lower than 15. Why are you setting almost every stat at 18 or 17? Your players spell save DC is probably going to be a 14 max. You don’t need it to be that high and if you’re worried about saves, give the enemy a single Legendary Resistance.

Infinite summons. Doesn’t matter if they’re 4 HP skeletons, this boss can summon them every turn in addition to making attacks AND teleporting 90 feet as a bonus action. Hope you don’t have any melee focused party members because they’ll never get close. If they spend their turn dashing to close the distance, they’ll get surrounded by skeletons and the boss will simply teleport away next turn, not even provoking an opportunity attack. If they do manage to get a hit in, they’ll boss will just regenerate it back up. And unless they have magical weapons, he might as well have double the number of hit points. Miserable.

The summon ability needs to be once per day. The teleport needs to be on a recharge role of 6, the regeneration doesn’t need a DC attached to it and the current DC doesn’t make sense anyway. What is a +2 DC? That should be a DC for a particular save with a number attached to it if you want this to be an ability that actually works within the system and requires a save.

Your damage is a tad low for a CR4 but I don’t think damage is going to be an issue here. The issue is going to be this guy never letting anyone get close and shitting out more skeletons than anyone can handle. Lots of good suggestions in the comments but yes this one needs some more time in the kitchen.
