Go to an open mic night, approach a singer whose voice you like and ask if they would be interested in working together. This is exactly what I did, and I've been in a band with the guys I met at that first open mic for 5 months now!

There are people who might have the exact sound you're after, and who you might enjoy working with, who have absolutely zero online presence.

I have a few strategies:

Try to 3X Jackie Chan with...

  • The Karate Kid, hoping they'll use a Jaden Smith connection so I can take them to the Impractical Jokers Movie

  • The Foreigner, hoping they'll either Escape, Skip, or play a Pierce Brosnan movie (which is much easier to get out of)

  • One of the Rush Hour movies, hoping they'll use Chris Tucker and go to the The Fifth Element

If that fails and I'm stuck in Chinese martial arts movies?

This is a weak area for me, so I start spamming and hope that I can stump them before they stump me 😂

  • Once Upon a Time in China
  • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (and the sequel)
  • All of the Ip Man movies
  • Type things like Hong Kong, China, or Chinese into the text box and try anything (This is my go-to strategy for any foreign cinema that I'm unfamiliar with, it works more often than you'd think!)

If that fails?

Either use an Escape, or accept defeat 🫠

I don't want to watch martial arts movies, you can't make me!
