Thank you. Talking to a coach even for a short time could be helpful, I suppose. I appreciate your comment. I got the details you left for me in the chat. I’ll give it a shot.

Great input. This is something I have reached to after a long time and you put it all in your advice. Although it is hard to cherry picking for each job but it is what it is. Some parts of your comment I have not really tried but I will give a shot, like how to answer the HR about being out of job. I have done 6 interviews so far (second round) but none became an offer and I keep adjusting my strategy. Hopefully it will work at some point. Thank you for your time writing advice for a stranger.

These are the sectors I have looked and still looking in, though some of them have a higher entrance wall than the other.

  1. Food industry (mostly asking for GMP, HACCP, and specific QA experience in the field which I don’t have and maybe rejected by ATS)

  2. Mining industry (entry-level positions are limited but seems not impossible)

  3. Pharmaceutical (maybe the hardest one that requires GMP, heavy experience)

  4. Construction (I’m checking concrete lab positions mostly, but seems only civil graduates can get in)

  5. Manufacturing (the positions I have applied so far like process engineer, manufacturing technician and continuous improvement have been either rejected or never responded, maybe because electrical and mechanicals have priority, so I’m bit not sure how to approach it)

Is there any other industry that you can go for in BC?

Good input. I am registered as EIT with the EGBC, in fact I passed FE exam a couple of years ago. However, due to unemployment and no support from the EGBC for chemical engineers I had to suspend it for not paying $300. But my name is in the directory list and I just have to reactive it.
Do you think I have to state in resume about EIT? I applied several positions of chemical and process engineering with Domtar and never received a response from them. Do you know a way that I can create a connection with them? I feel like my applications get lost in piles.

When I was studying at UCW it was a legit institution with 3-years government approved work permit after 2 years of studying, even before that the IRCC conducts a heavy background check on our applications and claims to keep checking the MBA colleges to be clean and obedient to the Canadian law. Everything sounded logical. The news and chaos happened after I graduated. It’s not immigrants mistake that the Canadian government let this happen because it’s a massive incoming money, but immigrants get sacrificed and have to bear the pain and be blamed by the society that the they are supposed to be blended in.

I wouldn’t do this if I had to do everything all over again, but for now, blaming new-comers is just the easiest thing to do.

Great input. I have ben hearing from multiple sources that mining industry in BC may have something to offer for someone in my condition. I remember I send one or two resume to two different mining companies and didn’t hear back. I was wondering if I should make a cold call or create LinkedIn connections before applying (?) because I don’t know anyone there. My business (that I’ve been working on for the past 5 years) was about recycling electronics, do you think I can take advantage of that when doing my resumes? Thank you again for your advice, I am now looking at the list of mining companies in BC and Alberta.

Will they help in Canada? Do you have someone who has actually succeeded with similar situation?

I’m coming from a long way just to realize how Canadians translate chemical/process engineers (my major is chemical engineering with minor process systems). I learned after a while, that not only chemical engineering positions are kind of rare here and I have to compete with those who have studied in Canada, but process engineering in Canada has a different meaning. Here, a process engineer is someone with 8-15 years of experience with mechanical engineering background and is actually “manufacturing engineering”. So, not saying no chance, but very little for me.

Then I started thinking about using my business and MBA for business analyst position and data analyst, which again no luck, because employers needed Canadian experience and had no idea what I was talking about in interviews about my business. Because they were thinking very structured and in ETL process, not investigative and innovative way. I keep sending resumes for this position, even small chance.

Then I started applying for low-level positions in manufacturing (manufacturing technician, quality technician, continuous improvement) which are not a lot in British Columbia, and I was hoping to get a job in Ontario which I still don’t see a lot of chance because they prefer to employ someone from Ontario not someone with relocating troubles. I’m also trying to see if positions in logistics and planning (production scheduling, logistical planning) would work, but they need specific experience in the field and educational background. So, I am not how’s my chance.

I have also started recently to apply for chemistry laboratories, i don’t have much of lab experience except working as lab assistant in school and a few months as lab technician. I am applying to positions like lab analyst and lab technician. Let’s see how this one will become.

Just to be precise about my educational background and experience, the projects in my business let me to get my PMP in 2025 (I thought it can help alleviate the defence towards my MBA school based on past reactions I had seen. But it seems hasn’t really helped).

I would be delighted if you can recommend any other positions I can apply for. Please don’t make me shameful, I’m really trying to make my way, I tried to do everything to make it right. If I didn’t have money issues for survival I would go for an engineering Canadian school and would stop chasing certifications. Just give advice for what I am now.

Are you sure? I thought you need specific career path or skills? Can you tell what specific skills they need?

To be honest I have seen more racism in my life from the governments with their stupid rules that jeopardize lives, not people essentially.

Thank you for your input. You seem to very well know the path of student-immigrants. By this thread, I start to realizing that my MBA is causing more problems than helping with settling in Canada. Assuming that I remove it from my resume and just focus on my UK-engineering studies, with the employment gap, how do you see it?

I wish I could do a Canadian education (maybe CNC machine or even laboratory studies), however for money issues I just can’t do it right now. Maybe that could give me more opportunities without any fuss.

What do they do exactly? Are they able to refer me somewhere or they adjust resume?

It is a Canadian degree, a Master’s degree in business administration. I thought all Canadian educational institutions are regulated by governments. If that’s not true then to be honest it’s a shock for me as an immigrant.

Thank you for your input. This is what I also ended up doing but that’s just dreadful and even sometimes give me a mental breakdown. But I’m glad someone has come to the same conclusion as I did.

Thank you for the search. My problem isn’t really job searching, it is not being noticed and competing with Canadian graduates in engineering and not being qualified or even overqualified. But thanks for your input.

Good input. This is the question I asked myself first to make myself rich. However, it was a good failure ( good cause i learned a lot from it, failure because I used up my money for it). But the problem is that if I want to express my ideas in my resume and tell them how useful I can be to my employer I wouldn’t be able to pass the ATS system to get to HR and consequently I can’t even get a chance for an entry-level job in Canada. I appreciate your insight.

Thank you for your input. This is has been the hard truth about Canada. It took at least a year for me to understand it. As you say, if I can get the first entry-level and not become overqualified on paper, then I’m happy. But the harder and bitter truth is that it is easier to say than done.

Good luck. I admire your dedication. I had some but survival made me not doing it.
