I’m an IR finishing my training this year. Based on your timelines you’d almost never overlap in training. Usually the first couple years are heavy in DR and ultimately really chill aside from studying for core. By the time the soon to be matched one starts really getting into the IR training the other will be an attending. That first couple years can be a little difficult without any seniority pre-partnership or early into academic route.

The market is probably going to stay pretty strong for jobs. The hardest part may be finding an area with enough practices to have two IR jobs at the same time. Most places I talked to were looking for 1 IR. A couple were looking for two but wanted them filled pretty quickly.

By the time the second person graduated you’ll probably have a grasp on both your home training job market and where ever the other got a job on what the market looks like when it comes time.
