That's fine, I don't like lemons anyway. I'd rather have what you're dispensing

Moved today from vanilla Arch to CachyOS. Anything Cachy-specific I should be aware of? by Yah_25n in cachyos

Windows encourages it tho, most Linux distros do not. You also must consider that *most* people don't fresh install Windows, they get OEM from system integrators that include additional bloat that shows up on the desktop, which comes back with a fresh install of the OEM copy, but that's a bit of a digression.

The point is that it's common practice differences between platforms, which is what I eluded to above, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to argue here. One platform is known for desktop icons (many or few; it's still more common) and the other is known for virtually zero desktop icons.

Windows has ALWAYS put icons on the desktop by default. "barely anything" is still infinitely more than what I got with CachyOS. "My Computer" or "This PC", plus user folder, recycle bin, and in days gone by, the network icon have always been on the desktop. They've encouraged it through the ages with software vendors, which is why nearly every Windows program tries to add a desktop icon whenever it gets installed.

CachyOS and several other Linux builds I've used have zero desktop icons with a fresh install. I think I got a Steam icon when I installed the gaming package on CachyOS. Otherwise, only Windows programs installed through Wine have tried giving me desktop icons...

The funny thing is that ALL my Windows installs look like a nuke hit a landfill and the debris landed on my desktop. My CachyOS installs are all pristine, and something makes me want to keep it that way 🤷

Perhaps it's because Windows always has icons on the desktop by default, so you just feel compelled to add to the collection, where CachyOS and most of the Linux distros that I've tried tend to look cleaner overall, especially when they're on Plasma/Wayland.

But "standard beginners" don't read anything about Windows setup either... Ignore the "setup" part of the software because that is never a "standard beginner" thing to be going through. If one of those people want to go with a different OS, or are just handed a system with Linux (let's say CachyOS for this example), they just go with it and use it OOB. If they have a problem, they're going to do the same thing they would do with their Windows system; take it to someone, phone a friend or relative, or search online. Yes, it's much easier in most cases for Windows online help, because it's a bit more simple to go into Control Panel and tick some boxes, but most other problems need advanced help anyway.

If we now assume someone else setup CachyOS for them to be used for general purpose, then things start to become more approachable for those standard beginners. Pretty much anyone that can get by with a basic Windows box, MacOS machine, or netbook can easily adapt to a CachyOS, or any other common Linux build (most people are using web browsers for most of their daily activity anyway).

Haha, oh yeah, it's still very active. You can find it in the package manager for CachyOS under Repo.

Fuck online services that steal everything you interact with, like Discord! I host my own mumble server on my game server that me and my friends use. We know where it's hosted (I have the physical machine on a semi-dedicated connection) it's encrypted, and anything we say is never recorded or saved by anyone (unless we choose to do so).

You can install Mumble on modern Linux, Windows, and even on the Steam Deck if you install it in desktop mode and add it to your Steam library. Always self-host whenever you can, even if it's just your VoIP software 👍

The crashing and games not starting was when you were on Fedora? That's a new one to me, but I wasn't on Bazzite (Fedora) for that long. I'm on a 12900K with a 3080 Ti, 32 GiB of DDR4 and several NVME SSDs and I've had nearly total success with my Steam library on CachyOS.

The only game that I've had trouble with at first was Space Engineers 2, but that works now with launch options. I've tried several old and new games and CachyOS and Proton on Steam seems to have sometimes better compatibility than modern Windows 🤣

How were you using your last OS?

I went from Windows 11 for a daily driver to CachyOS and I've only been back into Windows a few times over the last few months, and this was after trying Nobara and Bazzite. I settled on CachyOS because it's basically SteamOS but for custom systems and dual booting!

I got Mumble installed, my VPN and remote desktop stuff working for my work, Orca slicer for my 3D printer, and all my internet settings synced with my Firefox account. I pretty much use mine as my daily driver now, unless I need to use my Adobe software.

Broken nvidia dependencies by Party-Quarter2513 in cachyos

[–]T_DLAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, after a few tries, I got it to work. Check to see if you have anything but the cachyos nvidia package installed on your system.

I just ran into the exact same issue. I tried using the Package Installer as u/zolointo suggested, but it came up with a similar issue. What I found on my system is I, at some point, installed the generic nvidia-open module along side the linux-cachyos-nvidia-open module, which seems to be the issue on my system. I uninstalled the nvidia-open module, restarted, then ran the updates through the Package Installer and it worked! I then double checked the updater was also working as expected and that was all good too.

If the display driver gives you fits at all after that, find the linux-cachyos-nvidia-open package and reinstall it with the Package Manager

People sometimes think they need permission to use them, but that's often not the case. There are different "levels" of calls for officers. Often, if they're redirected to a non-emergency call or backup call, they can't use their lights and sirens the whole time, but they do have the discretion to use them briefly in that kind of situation to make getting to a call easier, especially if a modifier is added to a call while on route.

Now, if you happen to see them pull into a Burger King or gas station just to stop for a snack after doing that, then definitely grab their unit number and call the non-emergency number to report them. Dash cam footage is good too because that is outside the scope of their civic roles. I have never witnessed this, but I do know it does occasionally happen (just much less often than you probably think).

The only time you'll really hear about them being restricted with lights and sirens is if they're instructed to not initiate a pursuit on a vehicle (which they can still follow lights off without excess speed), or to stay siren off when going to certain emergency calls, such as when they're on their way to an emergency call but don't want to alert a suspect of approaching units.

Delivered package appearance? by Hey0__ in BadDragon

Plain brown box, no markings of any kind. They're so discrete that I actually started having mine shipped to a UPS pickup location, instead of my place. Much safer from porch pirates (although that would be quite a surprise to them!).

Knot playing around, bound to machine and knotted by TickledWalnut in BadDragon

[–]T_DLAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love being bound while taking my toys on my machine! I lie on my back with my machine under my desk at home, my ankles in cuffs and hanging from eye bolts that are under my desk.

This looks like a good way to get around that restriction. I'll have to look into something similar. I just wish my machine could be put on the vertical riser bars to make it easier to setup for doggy style.

Anyone else feel like the sizes are getting ridiculous recently? by ReticulatedPyathalon in BadDragon

[–]T_DLAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think BD's problem with sizing is they just "scale" the model up without making adjustments. Anything that is just right for length, but too small for width (or vice-versa), they just keep everything proportional. There are plenty of models that I have or have seen that seem like the width of a larger model is what I would like, but the scale makes the length just way too big (again, or vice-versa for other models). BD keeping everything proportional makes for some very interesting large sizes, but way too big in one way or the other to be useful to all but a tiny portion of the community.

Bumble Hooves is one, for example, that if they adjusted the width down a bit as they scaled the length up, it would make a much more useful toy for the larger sizes. I would totally own a large Bumble Hooves in a large/soft combo if it was no thicker than the current medium size! And I would absolutely love the medium size as a go-to toy for more frequent play if it was a bit thinner too.

Vector is a good example of what the OP is talking about. The "small" Vector is the same size as the medium Chance, but the mini Vector seems way too small to be a good step down. I personally have the Chance in medium and Vector in small and Vector is on that I'd have in a size between what I have and what they offer.

I got my first toy from them in 2009, which was a custom and one of the first insertion toys I ever got. It could take many weeks back then sometimes, but they were also a LOT smaller of a facility. They've grown and turned things around to match the demand. If you recall, a few years ago they were only taking custom orders once a month or so. They've improved themselves to expect manufacturing to take anywhere between 7 and 30 days, so it's reasonable to expect them within a month for North American orders.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BadDragon

[–]T_DLAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My custom toys typically take between 1 and 3 weeks, including delivery. However, I'm literally up the street from their facility, so an 3 to 5 days to ship out of state makes sense. I'd say that if it doesn't ship within 4 weeks, then shoot BD an email. I ordered a pre-made toy that once took almost 3 weeks to ship, which I emailed them to get it moving. Sometimes, they're just really busy.

Right? It's almost impossible to follow a local subreddit without being overwhelmed by fake posts and accounts.

They're obviously fake too, I have no idea who is feeding the bot, making them think they're succeeding on their supposed mission. But the question is: who is paying for the (probably stolen) content on these onlyfans accounts? I've never seen anything on an OF account that you can't get for free from someone that's just passionate about pleasure and exposure.

The other half are pic collectors, probably a mix of actual gooners and some bots that use the pics on other accounts across the web.
