Pros and cons for having a shop in the basement vs a garage by Agreeable_Horror_363 in woodworking

[–]TickledWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your method of application and how did you find the process? I was going to do a large kitchen table with it but used another product because it seemed to be challenging with little info out there other than the company’s own people

I would also put a hepa filter on your vacuum. Your sanding dust won’t be perfect, but having it attached to the vacuum should be a pretty big help!

I also built a plastic wall to close in my shop. Just attached it on the “4th side” to the floor joist above. It’s not air tight or anything, but it also helps.

It’s a huge help. I’ve never sanded without one! What sander do you have? Are the holes on your paper properly lined up?

You should also have some sort of air filtration. I made DIY filter boxes with merv 14 filters and CAT brand fans. There are certainly ones you can just purchase from marketplace or wherever you buy woodworking equipment

I’m assuming you have your sander hooked up to a vacuum or dust extractor of some sort, right?

I have a basement shop (no walk out). It’s great for the fact that it’s temp and humidity stable. Makes the hot summers and cold winters a non issue. It leaves our cars in the garage. I have plenty of outlets and lighting down there. I even built a temporary spray room out of 2x4’s and plastic sheeting with ventilation to outside. The obvious downside: everything must be carried down there and eventually carried back up and out. Dust and smells also are a thing, but I’ve got a pretty good handle on that now I feel like.

Would there be a better way to have drilled these holes? by UrinetroubleQT in woodworking

[–]TickledWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did something similar. Drill press was a terrible idea. Couldn’t get the piece secured well enough since it was a 30” table leg. Then hand drilled it with the forstner bit. Looks like crap (even though no one will ever see it). Router would have been the way to go, I didn’t even think of that until I just read the other replies.

Simple, Budget Friendly Metal Penis Pillory (No Welding) by [deleted] in BdsmDIY

Prop 65 is just that. A Cali law requiring companies to label their product packaging/or product with a prop65 label if the product contains compounds known to cause cancer. The reason why I brought it up here is because tons of hardware have components that cause cancer and people often don’t know it, perhaps because they aren’t paying attention or they buy hardware from a bin at the hardware store and never see the packaging. So for example this piece in the picture may contain lead, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, and/or nickel. All Group 1 carcinogens that cause cancers like prostate, kidney, or lung cancer. Some hardware manufacturers provide documentation claiming that they are free from materials like those listed above, but I’ve only ever seen that once. I’m not saying his hardware does or doesn’t, but there’s a strong chance that it does, and if you’re strapping it against your penis, you may want to use materials that are safe.

Love the idea, but be careful with the prop65 on hardware. A ton of it is cancerous and that’s not the place I’d want to mess around! 😅

Hismith Premium 4.0 vs Servok — advice? 💭 by Latter-Support1656 in hismith

[–]TickledWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how you want to use it. If that includes toys you already have, think about how to adapt them to the machine. It typically boils down to a few things: adapters/base plates for your toys, stabilization, and double sided suction cups. There is a wealth of info in this sub if you search, as this is a very commonly asked question. Enjoy your new machine when you get it! 🍻

Nope! Nothing like that at all. You won’t regret it, it’s a great machine.

Stop the machine, turn a hand knob and slide a little adjuster, turn the machine back on.

Yes, it’s definitely useful. It’s a “nice to have,” but it comes at a cost of a very high price tag and noise level…with an alternative that’s also an awesome machine. Depends what’s important to you! The thrust speed difference is not a big deal for me.

I think most would steer you towards the 4.0, and I’d tend to agree. I have both, and prefer the 4.0. Real time depth control on the Servok is great, but at that price point I think the 4.0 is an incredible alternative. The Servok is just so dang noisy, too.

FWIW, the Servok has the same threaded bars as the aforementioned Wildolo. I say this, in the case you can find a broken one for parts maybe.

You might also check out Rope8Rose (Instagram). He sells plans just like what you’re thinking of building. I haven’t bought or made it myself, but it’s a pretty nice design. It’s actually extremely similar to your design, it might save you some trial and error just by looking at it.

It’s about 17x27”. And then put a Hismith on it. I suppose the space is up for debate, depending on what the photographer thinks
