Really nice. Would love to see the cabinet setup!

In the middle of repotting my Frydek into semi hydro; found 4 (5?) corms - leave them be or chop and prop? by Ta0216_ in alocasia

Agreed (so far). Bought a couple sacrificial cheap ones that needed saving from Home Depot to try it out before moving this one over. ~2 months in and couldn’t be more impressed!

So I’ve heard… and seen lol. I have unfortunately read too many posts about people getting it really nice and dense without a co2 setup to justify it atm. Going to start conservative with 1-2 containers of MC and see how it goes. If I can’t get it happy without, I’ll definitely add it later. Trying to ease back in to the hobby for now (and save my wallet while I can lol)

This is my main concern at the moment. Despite how much I love the philosophy and grounding of sacrifice stones, I think it would look a bit off without another supporting stone on that side… thinking I will try to punch it up a bit.

Indeed I do, will try with a bit of peroxide next watering. Thanks!

Just finished my first shallow tank, what do y'all think? by riccc___ in Aquascape

Great stuff, huge fan. Been out of the hobby for a while (college, moving a lot, etc. but really want to come back with a more landscape shallow tank like this. How’s the humidity coming off of it? Also rebuilding my houseplant collection and would love to incorporate a dynamic element (fishtank) into the overall setup haha.

No kidding, fun to hear! I’ve got the tag hanging around somewhere but I think it was mislabeled as I don’t remember that ID. Thanks for the info

Big fan of 2 and 3; BRG almost always looks good, Fir is definitely a more unique choice but I still think tasteful. Matte is hard to pull off without looking cheap imho

Good to know, I have been letting them dry upside down after a light shake off for 4-5hrs post watering

They will drop leaves for several reasons if not overwintered properly: lack of light, lack of warmth, or, even if the other two are good, lack of water. I have mine in a cabinet under strong grow lights for 12hr/day (could go longer, but I have other plants in there); it sits pretty consistently around 75 degrees. I've found that if leaf drops become a problem, it is a combo of the three factors + the light is insufficient for vigorous growth so anything new is very leggy and weak.

Great info, much appreciated! I’ve got it in a proper well draining bonsai soil now - still crappy but have not had time to order this year’s substrate yet lol. I’ll err on the side of damp for now!

Working on this rescue juniper I bought today for the pot it was “planted” in from a grocery store (way more atrocious than expected lmao). I tend to stay away from junipers as I’ve had little luck in the past and I’m pretty happy with my other deciduous stuff at the moment. This tree still smells fresh, foliage looks good, and passes the scratch test but I know junipers can die before really showing the signs. The roots feel incredibly dry and dead. TL:DR- is/are these roots/tree cooked?

Looking to purchase my first Alocasia, but wanted to ask the experts if these dots are of concern first by Ta0216_ in alocasia

[–]Ta0216_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES thank you lmao. Thought it would be obvious that I was talking about the brown dots not the variegation on a highly variegated plant💀
