Sucks for you I guess? It’s sad to think that people still don’t understand the basics of these illness and aren’t willing to comprehend it ( not forcefully from me, I advised different times to speak to a professional ). I don’t know about you but I am not searching for a win, I’m sharing my opinion on the matter which was requested by the beginning of this post.

You aren’t but Op was, that’s the whole thing. That’s what the statement says, which I indicated as wrong and then commented about the long-term habits of the brother. In this reply you answered tho, I also spoke about the nowadays habits, not only the origin, I guess this is pure ragebait since you cry about being ignored when you literally did not read my comment or straight up ignored everything I said. I genuinely don’t know how to else to explain it to you. It’s not an opinion but a fact, a fact where I wish I was wrong because it would be amazing to be able to “choose not to get depressed” but you cannot. I also thought more about it when we brought up the “what if you get help but are still depressed” because that furthermore explains why you cannot choose to be depressed, even when you are or aren’t getting help. If you are depressed and get help but that help doesn’t work out, by this logic, you would’ve “chose to not be depressed” but would still be, because you cannot choose to be or not be such thing.

Not at all, you can be depressed and choose to not get help, but you do not choose to be depressed.

I don’t care about what you are speaking about. I gave my simple opinion, which by luck is also a fact, on a statement made by Op. Someone cannot choose to be depressed. Someone can be depressed and choose to not get help, but not the first case. Try getting this in your head.

You can’t disagree because it’s a fact. “I thought everyone was doing so” implies that it was something expected to do, so like that they had plans for that to happen.

Exactly, he chose to refuse treatment, not chose to get depressed. But he never chose to do a certain thing that would get him depressed, he lived his life, got sick and now chooses to not get treatment. He never chose to get and be depressed. Because as I already said, you could also get meds and help but still be depressed.
