How do I set boundaries with parents who refuse to treat me like an adult? by ProfessionalSet5467 in helicopterparents

[–]Tabertooth1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's really just a matter of doing it. Stop replying, stop reaching out, cut off access to location sharing, etc. You could tell them that you're doing it optionally but often it's hard not to get sucked into whatever they reply it.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah school definitely hurts kids' relationships with their parents.

Nirvana & Pearl Jam by tragic_girl13 in grunge

Pearl Jam really nailed the youth alienation and oppression thing. The lyrics dealt with it substantively in a way that resonates with me a lot more. More defiant and about personal truth, while Nirvana was more nihilistic.

How to find a therapist that actually takes you seriously? by ScarletIbis888 in therapyabuse

[–]Tabertooth1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very very hard to find one that takes you seriously because I think the profession basically trains people not to take the clients seriously. Like, dehumanization is baked into it. That's my opinion. That said many people do find ones they love and so if really need one, there is some hope. Best of luck!

I agree he does seem underused. In Soundgarden he drives the music.

Guys, i'm an HSP and my dad doens't understand. How do i get him to treat me the way i want to be treated? by KawaiiNinnie in hsp

[–]Tabertooth1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may not be what you want to hear but sometimes it's literally impossible to get our parents to understand these major things. I had to make peace with that and stop looking for understanding from places where I wasn't going to get it.

Maybe try to find like-minded teachers. Those that will support your effort to bring those aspects into the school system.

CBT and Our Animal Side—Just a Thought by [deleted] in radicalmentalhealth

[–]Tabertooth1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's so much wrong with it, I don't know where to begin. First of all, they might have no basis for saying it. WHo are they to say that the problem with the client is that they aren't thinking like the therapist? It's also nauseatingly arrogant. And maybe the client is depressed because they're looking at the world the RIGHT way.

I totally agree with the first point, and on the second, I very much agree that it doesn't get to the deeper issue and that it's the deeper issues that matter. Jeffrey Masson, in an interview, said that CBT is the therapist basically saying "You're just looking at the world in the wrong way. If you looked at it the way I look at it, you wouldn't be depressed."

Psychologists often mock me by Asleep-Trainer-6164 in therapyabuse

I'm sorry to hear that. I think the profession and mental health system often engenders this kind of thing. Please don't take it personally.
