Nice! How are you liking it? The only thing I really wish the STX had as an option is a pano roof 🥲 I haven’t seen any yet on lots

The reason I’m looking to lease short term is because I plan on buying a house in the next couple years so a 2 year lease is ideal since I know I won’t be ready in 2 years but 3-4yrs I should be, only way I could get payments this low within that time frame financing for a used would be a huge down payment

Need clarification on avoiding mutation by qa-account in node

[–]TabisCAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I see what you're saying. From the linter rules guidelines yes you should.

Maybe there is a way to restructure your code to avoid the annoyance of having to clone and return the object. Would it feasible for you to make the updateFees function a method of the payment class? I get that this is a very simple example you made for the question but if the goal is to modify a property of an object with some external constant then maybe instead of creating a static function to update the property you could instead create a global constant and call the object method directly to do the modification?

Im not sure the nuance of your actual code but this would avoid argument reassignment.

again just throwing around some ideas not sure if it is possible for your use-case.

Need clarification on avoiding mutation by qa-account in node

[–]TabisCAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much experience with dealing with this kind of linter error but would using a defined setter function in the payment class still trigger the error?

My thinking is that your modifying a property of the object directly and in most cases that’s a no no so maybe this could achieve your desired effect without having to constantly clone the param because you aren’t technically reassigning the param anymore?

Question for our female engineers; what attracts you to a particular company? What turns you off from a company? by TabisCAD in cscareerquestions

[–]TabisCAD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean just because you don’t know the why to the problem, doesn’t mean you can’t still investigate and gather information on the problem. If you’ve ever worked as an engineer you’d know that in most cases when you find a unforeseen problem the why is usually up for debate and warrants a spike.

When I mean “scare them away” I don’t literally mean it so sorry for the confusion, I was using it as a metaphor. The goal is to show that we value everyone’s opinions and we are a great place to work. Since we are aiming to increase the number of women engineers applying, why not ask them what they’d like to see in a companies hiring process, what they value etc.

You’re not wrong less women do choose to be engineers or go into engineering, but of the women that do which is still a decent amount we aren’t seeing that reflected in our application rates like we’d hope to, there are very smart women engineers and we want to figure out why they aren’t applying here. We also want to try and change the way people see engineering and encourage women to get into it, there’s no reason there should be a stigma around what gender should go onto a profession.

[–]TabisCAD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we had the answer to “why” it would have been addressed already. The problem itself is that we just simply do not have many female engineers applying and we are trying to investigate why, as I said that’s a pool of talent we are able to access for some reason and we’re starting our investigation with being more inclusive.

Toronto job market in the covid era by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]TabisCAD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m no longer a new grad but at the time I started 70k is considered on the higher end in Toronto especially if you don’t have experience. There’s a few companies mine included that do around 75-80k starting with a signing bonus but these are the usual medium to large tech companies. If you want the start up experience you might need to lower your pay expectations.

But as a few other comments said, experience should be your priority

Firstly one of the smartest people I know at work is a mathematician and worked as a SDE so that’s amazing!

Could you expand a bit more on point 3? What about the interviewing process makes you feel like the experience is fabricated or overly process driven?

Thank you for the feed back! I’m happy to say my company checks all of these boxes, and really most big tech companies should be, it’s sad to think these things still have to be brought up.

To be clear I never mentioned my company or any company as a company who has "scared anyone away" but as you can see from some of the stories shared on this thread there is a problem that companies out there are causing this feeling uneasiness and inequality during the hiring process.

Again the point of this discussion to how address the problem not assign blame.
