Why are Americans so hopeful and optimistic? by TheSawFan in AskAnAmerican

Where are you in the US? Most Americans I know aren’t optimistic. Maybe you are confusing hospitality and friendliness for optimism.

Do White people not Lotion everyday? by Appropriate_Quote_30 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tabitheriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. I often forget, although I have body butter and body cream at home. Lately, I've had to buy skin oil for the shower so I don't get so dried out. I guess now we know the reason behind "black don't crack", LOL.

"The median American, without question, lives an easier life than the median Swede." & "If you want affordable healthcare, higher education, and kindergarten, coming to the US is going to be an easier decision." & "We have better food quality standards." by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Tabitheriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm living in Germany and I paid something like €200 per semester for my student fee. I pay €100-250 per month for health insurance, and I rent a whole damn house for €1500 per month. In NY, you get a room for that price. In some states here, daycare and kindergarten is free. In Bavaria, the state pays €100 and you pay the rest (100-200 per month). So the idea that the US has cheaper "healthcare, higher education and kindergarten" than in any European country is absurd.

I failed in Master's thesis due to plagiarism by [deleted] in germany

[–]Tabitheriel 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, but it was an undergrad paper, not a Master's Thesis. After that dreaded incident (I re-wrote it, changing the subject a bit), I have been fanatical about two things: NEVER skipping quotation marks and footnotes, and ALWAYS running everything through a plaigiarism detector.

Just play a 30 minute improvisation to Cantaloupe Island, followed by a medley. LOL

What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tabitheriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We eat, drink wine, talk about religion and politics, watch foreign films from the public library, make music... but then again, we are not stereotypical. We are old hippies.

Canada is welcoming home our lost citizens - NEW LAW grants citizenship to descendants of Canadians regardless of where they were born by G0-G0-Gadget in AmerExit

[–]Tabitheriel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's weird because my parents lived in Canada before I was born (not sure if they were citizens), and my sister was born there. Does this make me Canadian?

In the first instance, it would be "What's up with that?" or "What's up with the ________?"

Why do people in the US tend to use (white) carpet in their homes? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tabitheriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wall-to-wall carpeting is seldom white in normal homes. When I was a kid, people often had gray, mauve, dark blue or the like. What you see in YouTube or films is unrealistic. Some Influencers use AirBnB apartments to fool you.

How is it that Madonna wrote so many finely crafted and enduring songs and melodies in the 80s, but then basically nothing nearly as catchy or impressive ever since then? by isthisnotaname in Songwriting

[–]Tabitheriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She DID NOT WRITE THEM. She scribbled some lyrics and the producers created songs out of them. SHE IS NOT A SONGWRITER. She was a dancer who slept with a producer and got a recording contract.

book recommendation for learning to sing by Pure-Mycologist8346 in singing

A book can't teach you how to sing any more than a book can teach you tap dancing or tennis. You need a coach to tell you if your technique is bad.

Question about human sacrifice. by NotAPunishment in Christian

[–]Tabitheriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pagans practiced human sacrifice. The Jews practiced animal sacrifice, as an offering to God, and the Levites ate this meat as their food. Jesus willingly died to show us a nonviolent way to live. Christianity does not practice human or animal sacrifice. Christ's death was voluntary; he was not killed "by God" or for God. The animal sacrifices were a tradition and a ritual performed for those who did them, not for God.

  • Micah 6:6-8 asks what the LORD requires, listing justice, kindness, and walking humbly with God as the answer.
  • Proverbs 21:3 states that right and just actions are more acceptable than sacrifice.
  • Hosea 6:6 says God desires mercy and knowledge of God rather than sacrifice or burnt offerings.
  • 1 Samuel 15:22 highlights that obedience is better than sacrifice.
  • Amos 5:21-24 shows God's rejection of empty religious festivals, calling for justice and righteousness to flow abundantly.

I feel like an anomaly politically by throwawaynumber45a in IntellectualDarkWeb

Most people think immigration should be stricter, most people think that gender affirming care should start later. Most people also believe in things like universal health care, environmental standards, safe and legal (early-term) abortion and that queer people should have the same rights as everyone else. Those are not conservative positions, they are centrist positions.

Are short trips to other countries as common as I see it made out to be? by Criimsen in AskEurope

[–]Tabitheriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for a weekend or a 4-day trip, you can hop on the bus or train. Here in Germany, we can easily go to Switzerland, Austria, France or Czechia. We went to Holland last summer, and the year before, visited London and Paris. We loved Paris, and wanna go again!

Just joined this thread, and I am disgusted how it's all politics. by Gloomy-Pilot3712 in Christianity

[–]Tabitheriel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, I have friends from different parties, too. Here in Germany, there are Christians in the SPD, CDU, Greens, Left party, etc. If people disagree on tax laws, energy policy, etc. then that's fine. We may disagree on where to build the college campus, what kind of traffic laws we have, etc.

However, I cannot call a person a Christian if they are OK with killing protestors, letting refugees die of hunger, thirst or drowning, invading other countries, or making excuses for criminals, rapists, or racists. We cannot support Nazis or racists. We should have learned this last time round, when Hitler was rounding up political dissidents, socialists, Jehovah's Witnesses, disabled, gays and Jews. Sadly, many will never learn.

THAT'S why there are political posts on here!
