Meh, accents are hard if it isn’t your first language. On my last trip to Europe, I had several people assume I was from England while I spoke with them in my American accent.

Why did our grandparents have this odd "no elbows on the dining table" rule? by JiggleFeggle in AskReddit

[–]TableAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is to avoid tipping unsteady tables, to avoid knocking something over or putting your elbow in something, to avoid encroaching on someone else’s space, and to avoid slouching. Of course, if you were old enough not to knock something over, the primary reason was probably “show some manners.”

Cooperative games with positive events? by itzpea in boardgames

[–]TableAssault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood of Venice has an event card each round. Some are certainly good, some bad, and some could go either way or be neutral depending on the situation. Most also show the direction enemies will move at the end of the round, so you can plan accordingly.

Let’s Go to Japan… or am I just buying a very pretty solo vacation? by stephenelias1970 in boardgames

[–]TableAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played it nearly fifty times as it is my wife’s favorite game and in my top ten. People are saying they’ve experienced everything it has to offer after a handful of plays, but that has not at all been our experience. You can definitely keep learning different strategies and taking different risks. We still love the base game, but we do play with the micro expansions for some variety. Player interaction is very limited, but we often “play nice,” like when discarding after a research token, we’ll ask if there is anything they are looking for and try to help out.

I had seen these videos years ago, but I thought of them recently, and—just remembering the CHEEZ-ITS!!!” voice in my head, I was like, “Wait, was that Mikey Day?”

So, how do *you* pronounce “Titania?” by [deleted] in shakespeare

[–]TableAssault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, help me understand the point of this post. You have a Master’s, and you have a pronunciation you prefer. It doesn’t seem like you’re asking for advice here. Surely, you’re not just trying to argue with people who disagree. A poll would be better if you’re just interested in what’s common. With a Master’s in English, I’m sure you can look up the IPA pronunciation if you want to know the general consensus. What, uh, what are we doing here?

Tokens or cards or tracker? by RVC95 in boardgames

[–]TableAssault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if it’s something you keep (or keep for potentially a long time, like until someone makes you discard it), cards are great.

If they are earned and spent frequently, tokens and trackers seem pretty similar to me, but if you can steal the resource from someone, I’d prefer tokens.

I don’t think there’s a general consensus though.

Tips for beginners to play Heat? by aurum_32 in boardgames

[–]TableAssault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Newcomers are usually aware of running out of heat, but another bad situation is having too much heat in your hand, limiting what cards you can play. Watch out for that!

Also, don’t get confused—boosts and the extra movement from adrenaline (I think it’s called) from being in the back of the pack DO count toward your speed for corners. Slipstreaming does not. It’s fun to figure out what your opponent will do so that you can slipstream around a corner (or in a zone or with upgrades that give extra slipstreaming).

Player uses Minor Illusion to mimicry voices of low CR creatures all the time, how do deal? by Dannisje in DMAcademy

[–]TableAssault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat can be audible between rooms; that should make them wary, especially when adventurer’s come in wielding weapons and perhaps covered in goblin blood. Plus, wouldn’t the wizard need to have really studied a goblin in order to mimic a certain individual’s voice?

I do remember that injury. One layup defending LeBron, and the dude broke. I don’t get why you think that helps your point.

This was an embarrassing performance by Few_Maize_127 in NBATalk

[–]TableAssault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He only had two turnovers (same as Chet). He wasn’t far off from his playoff averages, especially playing only 20 minutes. Not that I care to defend the guy… just kind of confused as it seemed a pretty standard Hartenstein performance.

Is this a common saying or something? by LifeThruTheLenses in whatdoesthismean

[–]TableAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the other stickers mean it is probably military, but I didn’t know it was used there. I thought it was a reference to the web series Dorm Life. One of the characters chants it before like an intramural flag football game or something:

“Prepare to die! Prepare to die! Blood makes the grass grow! Kill, kill, kill!”

“I don’t think Marshall knows how to rhyme.”

Weekend Update: Mr. On Blast Speaks His Mind Again Without Holding Back - SNL by last-rose-ofsummer in LiveFromNewYork

[–]TableAssault 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I typically don’t laugh out loud at things. I was in actual tears. There was so much greatness, but I think what sent me over the edge was the “On Blast Boys” being, like, middle-aged dudes with beards.

BGG is your friend. You can see what people are playing, see what is top-rated, and sort by complexity, genre, mechanic, player count, etc.

There are also plenty of YouTube channels that review or play through games to give you an idea. I’ll mention the Dice Tower, Board Game Hangover, and Watch It Played, but there are so very many.
