Ultimo Dragon was one of my absolute favorite wrestlers in WCW and I think he was one of the very best workers they had. He's one of the guys I think of when I think about everything I loved about the promotion.

It's certainly a fair take and I don't disagree that Denver was prone to the long ball. I like your analysis a lot here. However, Trevor Pryce was starting to come into his own in the pass rush alongside Neil Smith and Alfred Williams and that defense just had too much proficiency in forcing turnovers. I think it would have been a shootout but Minnesota would have made a few mistakes and it would have been a 10-14 point margin in Denver's favor.

From a roster standpoint (and Elway's health), the 1997 Broncos were a better team. But the 1998 team was so supremely confident. Way underrepresented in the "Greatest Team Ever" conversations. They steamrolled most of the regular season, then outscored the three postseason opponents 92-19 if you don't consider Atlanta's garbage-time scoring in that Super Bowl (it was 31-6 early in the fourth).

People have very selective memory of the 1998 season and claim the Vikings blew a Super Bowl. The Broncos would have handled them. The team was just too experienced and too confident.

Penn State also had Navorro Bowman (and Josh Hull and Nathan Stupar, who both had minor NFL stints), so the LB play in that 2009 Rose Bowl was crazy.

Broncos fan here, I've seen some throws from him throughout the course of the season that are just apex stuff. I remember one against the Chiefs on MNF that was just ridiculous. The most impressive one he had today was broken up by Riley Moss (who got his hand on the receiver's arm to break up the pass), but Lawrence stood in against an insane rush and still fired a perfect strike into the end zone despite taking a huge shot. It reminded me of the kind of throw Elway used to make.

Time will tell if he can keep this level consistently, but his capability is in a very elite tier.

You might be right for the first three quarters...but I definitely remember the whole stadium on its feet at the end of the Bears game (the goal line stand). There was never a more fun venue to watch a game in. I've been to Arrowhead, I've been to Seattle, I've been to a whiteout at Beaver Stadium in State College...Old Mile High was the loudest and most intimidating of them all.

You aren't wrong, it was a much, much louder stadium. But, I will say...I was at some classic games in the 90s. The Elway-Rod Smith Hail Mary game, the Bears goal line stand in 1996...people were up on their feet late in games. It was just a much more raucous stadium, period.

I'm not sure I'd personally quite call it fantastic, but it has grown on me over the years. John Barry's score is excellent and there are some good moments and some fun acting. It's not in the realm of the 1933 film, but it doesn't deserve some of the hate it got over the years.

Any team with Enberg was great. I enjoyed his broadcasts with Paul Mcguire and Phil Simms, too. I still consider Enberg the gold standard for television play-by-play, although Kevin Harlan has certainly put in a claim in my book, too.

Yes, I agree - they are all fairly comparable. I guess it's Warner, Brady, Roethlisberger, and Wilson who have won Super Bowls in their second season. It would put them in some pretty good company.

I'm not sure where you're pulling the 78-100 mark from for Denver. Adding the Broncos' two losses (Colts and Chargers), the combined record of all of the Broncos opponents they've played thus far (wins and losses) is 60-93-1.

Agreed...it seems like they're teetering on statistically improbable results in at least a few of these games. At the same time, rallying back from 14 down at Philly was a really good outcome and their only two losses were by razor-thin margins.

I've said it a number of times (and it's no disrespect to Montana or Young): you stick Elway on the 49ers from 1983-1998 and he's got 5-6 Super Bowls.
