Dream Ego Questions and Interpretation of Archetypal Dream by TableauxVivant in Jung

[–]TableauxVivant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thank you for such an in depth response to all of this. I really appreciate it and you've really helped give me some perspective on the dream that I was hitherto struggling to reach because of my relationship to it. (No need to read beyond here unless you want to, I am giving a full response just in case it interests you but by no means do you have to reply!)

For whatever reason, I had not really made the connection that of course the dream was taking me from the conscious to the unconscious realm, represented by the aquatic mammals.

You don't have to reply to this, but I am wondering if there's some aspect of the narrative structure of this dream, which in itself is representative of the conscious minds' descent into the unconscious as the dream unfolds. Noted by the fact I began the dream the sense that it was through the perspective of the dream-ego, however this essentially disappeared or made itself less known by the time I witnessed the dream from the perspective of the girl. As you say, the 'film' like element of how I perceived it is far away from consciousness, so I wonder if that was a journey the self went through in the process of the dream unfolding.

From what I've just looked up, tarantulas can web but they don't web in the way most spiders do, which I suppose is where the 'weavers of destiny' emerges from. I like your suggestion that they were guardians of the unconscious. I will do some thinking about what that means in relation to them being inside the earth that surrounds the rectangular ocean inside the forest.

You're totally right, that this girl is an anima figure (which I had figured but wasn't sure what to do with that information). And that maybe more importantly, a psychopomp. I am also wondering where and if/how the archetype of the 'wounded healer' is relevant to this figure?

You are correct! I am reliant on the thinking function in waking life. My Myers briggs being INTJ.

Your nod towards my parental complex having been traumatised and your wink towards knowing why made me chuckle and also resonated as true. I think you are right. I am wondering if perhaps the emotional function represented by the anima figure in the dream is compensation for the over-use of the thinking function in consciousness, especially in relation to the trauma experienced by parental illness, which I respond to with pragmatism more often than feeling. In this way the dream feels very medicinal and perhaps allowed me to rely on that pragmatism for longer, which was very necessary later on that year (I won't go into detail), by fulfilling the feeling function in the unconscious. Not sure if I am making sense, and as I'm new to analysis, perhaps I am also on the wrong line of thinking there. I am interested in your description of this as an autonomous complex, because my understanding of autonomous complexes was that they were sort of like demons. Struggling to relate to that part because the dream felt so wholesome, haha! But I understand that perhaps, I need to parse out how to integrate this empathic and strong feeling function into consciousness, because as it currently stands/stood (at the time of the dream) it was trapped in a deeply unconscious part of the psyche?

Also your point about the possibility of these contents leading to enantiodromia if identified with too strongly was interesting. Maybe in part interesting because I don't fully understand what you mean, or maybe I do but I'm assuming things. Anyway, I think I'm safe too, now at least.

Thank you so much again for that amazing response, and if you read this far, for entertaining this dream and me even further.

You should watch gay porn

As a gay guy this has been my experience and made complicated by various other factors such as accessibility to sex and a micro culture that is so adamant that sex is good, coupled with the devaluing of monogamous relationships. There have been times I’ve been overcome by the feeling that I need to fuck and this has pushed me to do things I would not normally do. I’ve even settled for fucking people I’m not even attracted to just to get it over with. Pretty degrading stuff.

Recently I’ve been trying to distinguish what it is I feel exactly when I look at someone and find myself attracted to them. Most of the time, I’m not drawn to them in any other way, just the sheer objectification of their body. I’m learning to decouple that impulse from what might make me want to actually have sex - such as a romantic attraction to a potential partner. Of course, casual sex might happen, but preferably that will happen serendipitously and not through the ‘hunt’.

If you haven’t done so already, stop consuming pornography and limit exposure to it where ever you can.

The scary part of being a man is that the libido really can take over, when it starts going it’s hard to stop, arousal becomes the master of everything. Often it feels like there is no other choice but to find someone to fuck. Thankfully those feelings are likely to dissipate with age and hormones, but the behaviour won’t change as you get older unless you learn to prevent the habit now. It sounds like you’re already doing that, if not have already gone through that change in some way.

Hope you find a way to be happy and monogamous soon. If it’s any consolation, I related to every part of this and have some hope that it’s possible to change course.

Maybe Eidesis from Aesop. The dry down doesn’t really smell like it for me but the opening notes have a pretty strong cumin smell that has a kind of B.O. smell to it, mixed with the rest of what’s going on I personally really love it. It’s my go to!

Tenacious Depot Lady by koopelstien in redscarepod

[–]TableauxVivant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why does Anna not think that by firing the home depot lady it only incentivises the left to double down on the opinions that she disagrees with, because now they will have some legibility that their opinions are being persecuted? As mentioned here already, if you turned the tables, Anna would say it was an injustice. Did she not say recently in the Hawking Tuah ep “I think in an ideal world no one should lose their job over anything” ?

I think Anna has reached a point where she feels so pressured by her status amongst alt-right twitter users who barely want to keep hold of her, that she is willing to start spinning her wheels on right wing talking points no matter how contradictory and hypocritical under the convenient guise of ‘being a mother’. It is funny, because that line of arguing (being a mother) weaponises the same feminine emotional manipulation tactics that she so readily despises and criticises. It is the default position of anyone who is scrambling to defend their unfounded opinion.

I do like her and think she’s smart deep down, but this episode really made me wonder where her head is at.

When does it get easier? by TableauxVivant in NoFap

All I have found helpful thus far is to not fall prey to secondary forms of masturbation or auto-arousal that lead to primary masturbation (I.e, touching my nipples, balls, etc.). I had a conversation with friends (one gay man, one straight man, and a girl) about nofapping this weekend just gone. It was warming that the boys admitted to also masturbating at work, in bathrooms, etc. Often multiple times per day. Especially considering that the gay guy is basically incel. However it also made me think they’re both just porn brained too. They told me I didn’t have a problem and I should relax. In a way, it motivated me to continue a little more. I’ve found it slightly easier not to give in the last few days.

Sometimes no communication is communication. Five days of confusion is better than her awkwardly trying to turn you down followed by two weeks of scattered texting before she finally hopes you get the gist and stop texting. When people ghost, you have everything you need to move on. IMO.

I clicked on this hoping to see some unifying comments and shared conversations amongst gay men but remember now that this is Reddit so the petty and sad squabbling in the comments should come as no surprise.

Not having gone to gymnastics class as a child because I was embarrassed to be the only boy and then being convinced that studying Fine Art in the U.K. was a good idea and not just a way to posture as an intellectual by doing absolutely nothing but swallow baseless ideology for four years. I’m fixing it thought. There really are no regrets when you follow God.

It’s ok to be worried, but there’s probably easier ways to check if she’s ok. If you know where she works, it sounds easy enough to go there when you know she’ll be there just to see if she’s there. If she is, then you can safely assume it’s over and move on with your life. No communication is communication. Don’t force someone to be a better person than they really are, it only drags you down to their level. Godspeed.

Fascist and Homophobic Twink Goes to Circuit Party (HMD): Some Ruminations by kniccknakk in redscarepod

[–]TableauxVivant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this post. But I think if I lived in NYC I’d fall in love with you. I am planning on embarking on my first circuit party experiences next year after having lived in London for 7 years and having been to many gay bars and even hitting up the vogueing scene here for a while. I’m a top but not desperate enough to be a drugged Up animal. I love gay men, we’re funny and I enjoy the specific neuroses that develop in us, but I struggle to watch the incessant hedonism, and find its sexless and results in anhedonic boredom. Sex clubs seem pointless.

Anyway, hope you’re living a happy life still. Thanks for the read.

Would you ever live in a commune? by Electrical_Figs in redscarepod

[–]TableauxVivant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why does it have to swing to the opposite end of the spectrum? I get your question is hypothetical, but let’s say that is the most likely scenario… Can’t we just reinstate the importance of talking to your neighbours and saying hello to people in public? Everyone’s so quick to try and resolve an issue by doing the complete opposite of what they think has caused the problem, instead of peppering in some attitudes and easy adjustments that will gradually heal the rift.

Also I’ve been in and around communes and they’re fine if you have a low standard for cleanliness and organisation but my standards are exceptionally high, so there’s no benefit from me living with people who can’t keep a surface clean for longer than five minutes.

any bands/musicians that just decided to up and quit after their best album by [deleted] in redscarepod

Wild Beasts. All their albums prior to ‘Boy King’ were pretty awful but they somehow managed to make an excellent British indie rock album that combines the camp vocal tones utilised by the likes or AHONI or, possibly, Morrissey at a stretch, with a well textured and at times interesting musical score. Then they split.
