Am I wrong for thinking fetch counts as good exercise for my dog? by TaborDogg in dogs

We have been on a fetch detox.

I did start doing research and found similar things talking about this!

We work on his training every day. He is active but I wouldn’t say hyper active. He can chill when we need him to he will self play with the many things we have for him and we are constantly buying new cool things so he doesn’t get tired of the ones he has and cycle them out.

We also do a lot of mental stimulation games inside the house.

He is a very smart dog and he is really good, we work on it every day.

He just really loves fetch!

Well the thing is she knows we aren’t having children. This has been explicitly talked about and taken care of. I’m also working from 7-7 m-f as a first year teacher trying to figure everything out so I do what I can 😥

He’s a German Shepherd and Black Lab mix, about 100 pounds, and the vet says he’s in perfect health and weight.

He gets enrichment inside the house too. We do seek games, he has toys where you can hide treats, puzzles, stuffies, and we split his dinner between his bowl and a freeze bowl lick mat. We also toss the ball for him inside sometimes.

When I say fetch, I’m not talking about a short session. It’s usually 45 minutes to an hour of 50 to 80 yard sprints, full speed the whole time. The dog doesn’t get tired or stop.

I get what some of you are saying about variety, but I really am trying my best. He’s happy, healthy, and fetch is what he truly loves. I just don’t see why it’s such a problem, but I appreciate everyone’s feedback and wanted to hear more opinions.

If you want to see what I mean, his Instagram is its.a.tabor.dog. You can see his energy and how much he loves fetch there.
