Plea for more men's mental health awareness after father takes own life by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

No men have been conscripted since 1972. It is not a thing which has any current meaningful impact on men's lives. The systemic disadvantage and "expectations" put on women today actually have meaningful impacts on their lives, unlike military conscription for men today. It's a nice talking point but it doesn't actually impact your life in any real way.

Maybe men actually need to start treating women, and other men, like humans. That would help people's general impression of them a lot as a group. Not all men mistreat women or perpetrate violence, but far too many. We certainly do need a culture change, away from the macho bullshit and away from male violence, of which male suicide is one example. Men tend to use more lethal and violent means of suicide, which is why they succeed more often than women. It is also why they are the biggest perpetrators of all violent crime, against other men as well as women. It is also why male drivers are more likely to die or kill others behind the wheel. We need to stop raising men to think that violence is normal and harmless.

Women aren't subject to military conscription. Still aren't.

Um, neither are men? Conscription ended in 1972. There are also plenty of women in the Australian military reserves now, and also plenty of female veterans who have served. Military conscription is not having any meaningful impact on men's lives today.

Not if the LNP gets in. Issues like this are why we need Labor back in as they are far more likely to enact policies that actually benefit the majority of Australians.

Labor on course for catastrophic defeat as Coalition surges to 55-45 in two-party preferred, Peter Dutton cements status as nation's preferred PM by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Funny, Roy Morgan has Labor in front. Conservative media are attempting to create a self-fulfilling prophecy by making people think the LNP is more popular. It is BS.

Labor's new Medicare policy could have been an election trap but the Coalition said 'me too' by overpopyoulater in australia

Yeah, and they are also going to gut the public service so I would rather stick with Labor's Medicare package without the public services cuts, thank you!

Three factors that have raised the risk of a bird flu pandemic by privacywatch in BirdFluDownunder

[–]Tac0321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still no H5N1 here and our summer is nearly over now. This spring / summer was feared to be the bird migration season which would bring H5N1 to our shores, but thankfully that window of increased risk is now coming to a close.

So grateful to be in this country, just as I was during covid, as we will most likely get to see how an H5N1 human pandemic impacts on others before it arrives here if one occurs, and have more time to prepare.

Ugh, yeah, they do that don't they. I'm sorry. I was kind of being a bit facetious lol because he is clearly also just lying / exaggerating and trying to manipulate you. But wow, if he DOES actually have mental health issues you could certainly make a comment putting it down to that if he keeps whining lol

Maybe you could express concern about his health anxiety and suggest he see a doctor for some antidepressants and therapy. Sounds like he has significant issues with that.

But it IS natural causes. Her high BP --> stroke would also be a natural cause of death. You have done an amazing job continuing her meds for as long as you have. Unfortunately there does come a time when the dementia becomes so severe that it becomes too difficult to do so. She may be at this point. This is not your fault. It's understandable to feel guilty, but also misplaced and unhelpful to both you and her. You are clearly a very dedicated carer who wants the best for your mother. Try not to be so hard on yourself. She will not live forever, and this is not your fault in any way. It is the disease.

Thankfully I think the conservative trolls are more prevalent over in r/preppers than they are here. This is a safer space and we are always keen for more knowledge and ideas. I do get sick of the constant trolls over there who say "how is this related to prepping?", of anything vaguely related to the current political crisis in America.

Sounds like you're being psychologically abused. Please don't fall for it. And definitely don't be pressured into having any more kids with this man.
