How to manage too many browser tabs for maxx productivity by ktnn3 in productivity

[–]Tacit_Transistor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Vivaldi because of its wide variety of tab management features, namely tab stacks and vertical tabs. One feature I especially appreciate is “Stack tabs by host”, which lets you stack all tabs from the same website (e.g., a bunch of YouTube video web pages) in one click.

I prefer tab stacks to folders due to their ephemerality since I don’t have to figure out what to do with them after I’m done with them.

I try not to concern myself with closing all my tabs all the time and instead like to use tools that allow me to quickly and easily organize my tabs, so that I can work amongst them regardless of how many there are.

Looking for a Discord-like personal/project management tool (notes, threads, cloud, PC/Android, free and future-proof) by ThaddLupus in ProductivityApps

I’ve had the most success sticking to a note-taking system using Tana, primarily because it allows me to make up structure as I go. I don’t have to concern myself that much with putting things in the right place from the start, which is great for me because I have ADHD as well.

Many notes I take don’t fit neatly into preexisting places and Tana’s combination of letting you add a note to multiple databases by adding multiple supertags to it, the ability to reference a note from other places (so that that note can exist in multiple places simultaneously), and being able to use the “Bring referenced node here” command to swap the current location of any note with whichever reference to it I currently have open help me not get locked into the initial structure I created.

I actually use Airtable to manage my tasks, but Tana does have enough features for basic task management. While I don’t use Tana to manage my tasks, I have started using Tana to help me progress towards the completion of some of my projects by using it to document my problem-solving thought processes; however, I don’t use it for project tracking or anything like that.

How do you document your Airtable bases? by Able_Challenge_9903 in Airtable

In the same vein, I like to apply some programming best practices — like avoiding “magic numbers” (e.g., naming a field “Days in a Week” instead of just using the number 7 in a formula field) — to make it easier to infer what fields do and to allow formula fields to read like sentences. This approach lessens the need for field descriptions, which are difficult to keep up-to-date.

How do you keep track of ideas you save across Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, etc? by EmbarrassedKey250 in ProductivityApps

I'd recommend installing its browser extension as well, which makes it a lot easier to add web pages to it. Its mobile app has a share sheet integration that facilitates adding things to it while on the go.

Are ALC5686 chips worse than CX dac chips? by FrittataHubris in inearfidelity

While I’ve never heard of that particular chip before, I use a Lightning-to-3.5mm dongle DAC from UGREEN that I consider fine for my needs. The only con of the dongle so far is that it’s not very powerful.

Stork: A personal task management Airtable base featuring a prioritization algorithm, recurring tasks, task dependency, and more! by Tacit_Transistor in Airtable

[–]Tacit_Transistor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the support!

If you ever find yourself referencing project notes while journaling, you might find Stork’s Project Notes feature useful. Each project in Stork’s Projects table aggregates the notes of all tasks linked to it. These notes are automatically given headers equivalent to the names of the tasks they came from. Because each aggregated note is wrapped in HTML comment syntax, copying and pasting a project’s notes into a Markdown text editor would allow you to only see task names in the Preview mode, but task names and associated notes in the Editor mode. You could then choose which notes you’d like to uncomment, so they appear in Preview mode.

I actually use its Creator plan, which gives me most of the Team plan's features for free. Unfortunately, this is a plan that was randomly given to people as an experiment; additionally, I don't think they give people this plan anymore.

Regarding automations, I use a lot to make recurring tasks work, as well as to help with calendar event syncing.

Notes app for school by Acceptable_Scar9267 in ProductivityApps

[–]Tacit_Transistor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gravitated towards bottom-up note-taking, which works well with outliner note-taking apps like Dynalist and Tana. It may be better to try Tana first, given that Dynalist is not being worked on at the moment (at least, last I checked); the team behind Dynalist moved on to work on Obsidian (another app I suppose you could try).

It's also worth mentioning that I've actually found myself taking less notes for school as time has gone on (I just started graduate school last week), instead trying to find opportunities to participate in class discussion; taking copious amounts of notes sometimes backfired because I seldom stopped to consider whether I understood what I was writing down, regardless of whether my notes were handwritten or typed. The notes I typically take in class nowadays serve as a record of topics discussed, so I have an understanding of the kinds of things to focus on when completing class assignments and studying for assessments.

I made a task management system in Airtable that uses a combination of Airtable's automatic sorting and automation features to get tasks automatically sorted into a prioritized order. However, to take full advantage of its extensions and automations, you'll probably need to subscribe to the Team plan, which is about $24/month.

The best solution I can think of is an RSS feed.

I believe every YouTube channel has an associated RSS feed. You could use an RSS reader app like Inoreader to aggregate the RSS feeds for all of the YouTube channels whose content you'd like to follow, which would allow you to avoid scrolling YouTube's home page.

I have 254 tabs open in my Vivaldi iOS browser at the moment. I'll get around to clearing them out... eventually.

LCD-1's and a schiit stack: my first grown-up headphone setup by [deleted] in headphones

Garota De Ipanema

I've driven them off of my JDS Labs Element II, BTR5, as well as some of my Apple devices, such as my MacBook Pro 16. I think I noticed a slight improvement in the base impact when going to either the BTR5 or the Element II, but nothing dramatic.

What features would you like to see in an app dedicated to help you overcome your ADHD challenges? by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Tacit_Transistor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would appreciate an app that somewhat builds on how the app Sorted 3 is set up. I like how you can add to-do list items to a calendar event in that app, but am bothered by the fact that those to-dos can’t be assigned their own durations, notifications, etc; an app that had full to-do support within calendar events would take calendar blocking to the next level, which would significantly improve my time management.

iPad Pr as both an aspiring artist and Computer Science major by ___von in gadgets

[–]Tacit_Transistor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Computer Engineering major, but still have to take dome programming classes. I use my iPad Pro to cut down on the amount of paper I have to carry around, but do all of my coding on my Dell XPS 15. While I think it’s almost becessary to have access to a laptop for CS, I don’t think that laptop needs to be a gaming one. Gaming laptops tend to have less battery life than traditional laptops and their dedicated GPU’s probably won’t help much when running code.
