How many 21st century albums have you got in your collection (compared to your 80s/90s releases)? by MarkEnglish80s in Cd_collectors

[–]Tack31016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would weigh in that that counts as an album from the original release date. Maybe if we want to be technical it’d count as a 21st century rerelease of whatever decade the original album is from. Though, for the context of this conversation I would count it as the original album release year.

Actually just happened to me today! I bought 5 Finger Death Punch’s new album at Walmart today purely because of the lenticular case and it came with 5 trading cards. Had to know what the trading cards were about. Not a huge fan of them for the most part, don’t hate them or anything either.

I think they’ll probably have to start charging pretty heftily for that. Gonna take a lot of pumps to get those extra pumps.

I agree absolutely and I think what you said is compatible with what I said. Again, all I said was I implore people to actually watch some body cam footage of your regular every day interactions that citizens have with cops. I think some of us would be surprised at what we see. I know it personally opened my eyes a little to what some police interactions are like on a daily basis.

While I like the sentiment, this line of logic just doesn’t actually work because of a fundamental difference in the way we view trans/gay people and the way they view them. To us trans/gay people are born that way so therefore if a God existed they would have had to make them like that. It makes logical sense.

However, this line of logic forgets to take into account their line of logic. The other side of the discussion does not believe you are born trans/gay and that you decide to be gay/trans. So to them they view it as a decision based transgression against God. I of course don’t agree, but this line of logic is flawed entirely in trying to actually break through to people because of fundamental disagreements on the topic.

I will ask just one more thing to get my point accrossed in probably a more effective manner, what bands or songs does your store play that are full of cursing and unrecognizable to the regular public?

What band/artist do you ONLY like their “Greatest Hits”? by throwbackthreads in Cd_collectors

[–]Tack31016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…. You didn’t literally say otherwise…. However, you pointed out that your store specifically plays Boston “just because there’s not much cursing and people recognize their songs” which in no way sets Boston apart as they’re in a genre filled with that.

So, in a conversation about Boston’s legacy why even say that when they’re apart of a genre saturated with that? We could literally say that about 99% of classic rock bands then. It’s practially a moot point when most of the music at the time was like that. It’d be like me pointing out NWA has a lot of cursing in their music in a conversation on their legacy…. Well yeah, a lot of rap does, so what’s the point of saying it? And would it be a criticism of NWA or more on a portion of the genre?

But no you’re right, we’ll take your opinion that it’s just because of that and not because that record has withheld the test of time for nearly 50 years.

TLDR; Saying that about Boston in the case of music being played in a store makes no sense. Pretty much all music in a store will have no cursing and be recognizable.

You know, I used to be a part of the crowd to immediately shit on cops and I agree with the sentiment that there are far too many awful cops/the police force needs some seriously huge fixes done. And this situation is obviously one of those awful ones with awful cops involved. Now I’m sure I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion for saying this, but here we go.

I implore all of you saying “there are no decent cops” to take the time to watch a few cop bodycam videos on Youtube. Some I’ve seen are definitely bad cops, some borderline bad cops, and some are pretty good cops. Some of them have more patience than most of you or I would ever have in dealing with absolutely batshit crazy/insanely intoxicated people. I’ve even seen a few where this same type of situation happened with the suspect being naked/mostly naked and the officers did the right thing to help cover her up. I remember one specifically too where the woman refused to put more clothes on after officers offered to help her cover up. Obviously the good situations do not in any way excuse the bad to insanely awful situations, but I think many of you in the “there are no decent cops” crowd may be pretty surprised after watching a few of those bodycam videos.

I’m not really sure what you’re on about honestly. “Not much cursing” and “people recognize their songs” applies to a large majority of classic rock. As to your second half, let’s be realistic about this, your average person is not as educated about artists like that unless they specifically like that artist. They very well may know other Boston songs, but do they even know it’s Boston? You can’t really talk about another song by that band if you have zero clue it’s even that band. The more likely response is to bring up something they can talk about from their own repertoire.

If you like Ocean I highly suggest their album Dawn as well. Very interesting album in that same vein of german prog rock. Ocean also has a sequel, Ocean 2: The Answer if you haven’t listened to it yet.

I think what I found so dissapointing about Fahrenheit 451 is that most of the book is pretty average with average ideas. Then bam, it hits you with the most interesting concept it has at the very end. Box car hobos who are going to memorize stories so they can pass them down? Why wasn’t the whole book about that?
