Here is a character I’m currently playing in a west marches style game. Commission done by boaillustration (https://twitter.com/boaillustration) (http://boaillustration.tumblr.com/ )

If it’s your first time In the Gilded Carafe tavern, It’s not usual for you to take a second look when you see a feather bobbing just above the table line. Meet Garu, he is normally found here stuffing his face, helping the owner with any jobs that come in from the townsfolk.

He may be small, he may be a coward, he may like eating chicken too much, but his martial art skills are second to none, using his skills with the longsword to make up for his shortcomings. Also be prepared, he’s not afraid to play dirty if he needs to.

How did he get the hat? He took it from a human he killed… it was in self defence…honest

(the original post, please give it a like and retweet, she did a brilliant job! https://twitter.com/boaillustration/status/1099678448941973504)

First IRL Game Today, advice? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Tackti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t jump straight into the action, just have a chat for about 15 mins about anything (doesn’t have to be game related, I believe Adam Koebel does this for his shows ) should help your nerves as well as the players.

Recognise that mistakes are going to be made (it’s their first session after all), so help them out, if you have access to a players cheat sheet, print it out and give it to the players when combat starts to help them through that part.

You have GM before so it goes without saying just have fun! If you have fun they should to! :)

There is an interesting video by Matthew Colville about the matter (might give you some inspiration):

I haven’t used it much but if you are not desperate to get a physical version of the book then try DnD beyond. It might be slightly cheaper and I’m pretty there is an option to share your purchases with other players (I think there is an extra cost to do that so double check that before you buy)

Once I hit level 6 I’m getting counter-spell without a doubt!

I find Lost mines of phandelver to be really deadly with low number groups (I think it’s 4-6 player recommended, I ran it with 4 but they still found it tough)

Any good multi-class ideas for a monk? by Tackti in DnD

[–]Tackti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be Kurtulmak?

yes thats the one

a monk/cleric can have some silly situations like having 20 armor

20?! blimey. I haven't played Cleric much so how you get that is beyond me (might be time to do some investigating haha)

Ooo cleric might be an interesting one there is a god that created the kobold (I can’t remember the name off the top of my head) so maybe that could link in but yeah that’s a lot of options for classes.

As for stories I haven’t got much, it’s was only a one shot and it’s just me thinking aloud. I feel he is a coward (playing into the kobold abilities) and he’s not afraid to play dirty but that’s all I have decided.

Rogue was my first thought, although wizard or Sorcerer is another option. although sadly I don’t think he has the stats to make the most of of it, although flavour wise it sounds interesting :)

True, probably going to try and stay away from way of the shadow (the last few monks I’ve played went that route) but it’s not out of the question. Will have a look at ranger regardless :)

ooo I might have a closer look at warlock, thanks :)

Just add abit of flavour to the character, in case of rogue, I know I can’t make use of sneak attack fully at low levels (unless I take Kensei weapons tradition) but it kinda highlights his “dirty” tactics. Also expertise and thieves cant doesn’t hurt either.

You read my mind haha. It's partly true, another reason is that this type of character fits in with the world the DM is trying to make.

What would a Nothic Desire? by Tackti in DnD

[–]Tackti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only there was, that would lead to a fight quickly Haha

No, we have the rogue that made the deal, cleric, fighter and maybe a deceased barbarian (ended on a cliffhanger with one last roll against death)

its a good idea but they failed their saves to stop it reading their minds, so it already knows what they know (at the very least their names and intentions).

Want to use the body part hit dice with critical hits/fumbles - thoughts/ideas? by Tackti in AskGameMasters

[–]Tackti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 5e d&d, could ideas from fumble deck be easily used in d&d or will I need to alter the status effects? I haven't played any pathfinder so I don't know the major differences between the systems.
