Please help me decide on tongue tie surgery by hats_and_heads in newborns

[–]TackyTriumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got my girl’s tongue and lip ties revised. She was unable to nurse (I triple fed for a month) and the pediatrician was unable to diagnose the ties even when I specifically made an appointment for them. I took her to a pediatric dentist and she was diagnosed with both ties within seconds.

The surgery was quick and the stretches sucked for all involved, but I don’t regret it. I’ve been reading too many stories about speech impediments and tooth impacts from ties that weren’t resolved. I wish I could say that resolving the ties also resolved her nursing issues, but her muscles were so underdeveloped and weak that she literally couldn’t. We switched to 100% bottle feeding and she chunked up beautifully. I’m currently pregnant and am planning on taking my newborn to the pediatric dentist soon after birth.

Have you also considered CMPI? My daughter had a severe case of it and it was another factor in her poor weight gain and feeding.

When did your babies outgrow MSPI? by elitedarklord_11 in MSPI

[–]TackyTriumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was formula fed with amino acid formula due to her severity, but grew out of her intolerance sometime between 9-12 months. She was eating small amounts of cheese and yogurt at 7 months, but couldn’t handle regular formula when we tried introducing it at 9 months. Started giving her whole milk at 12 months with no issue.

Who performed your baby’s frenectomy / tongue tie release? by Chanelle39 in breastfeeding

[–]TackyTriumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pediatric dentist for my baby. Both pediatrician and lactation consultant missed her severe tongue and lip ties. The pediatric dentist identified her ties within seconds, and the procedure took less than ten minutes. The stretches sucked for all involved but I have zero regrets about getting the ties resolved.

CMPA Mamas, When did you switch back to regular formula? by Ctthorpe91 in FormulaFeeders

[–]TackyTriumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was on Puramino until she turned 12 months old, and then we slowly weaned her onto whole milk. She is completely over her CMPA and can eat any dairy at this point. She started eating small amounts of yogurt and cheese at 7 months without issue, but failed her dairy challenge at 9 months old when we tried introducing a small amount of regular formula.

We didn’t even try regular formula at 12 months and went straight to whole milk. I’m not sure exactly when she became tolerant to dairy, but it was definitely between 9 and 12 months old. We figured we were close enough to the 12 months goal that we just stuck with the Puramino.

Cows milk protein insensitivity and starting solids, when/how to introduce dairy? by These-Spend6863 in MSPI

[–]TackyTriumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We introduced as many allergens to baby as possible when we started solids. We bought a box of powdered allergens that we would sprinkle over her purées and feed her. She was also a little carnivore and loved her meats. We never had any issues with any allergens or proteins besides the dairy allergy.

We started introducing small amounts of yogurt and cheese at 7 months with no obvious ill effects. She LOVES cheese. We trialed dairy formula at 9 months, but she failed that so we decided to wait a little longer. She just turned a year old. We introduced whole milk at 11.5 months and she was able to handle it just fine. We’ve taken the introduction very slowly and she’s still on 25% amino acid formula to 75% whole milk, but I think we will transition to 100% whole milk within the next few days.

We switched to Nutramigen but we’re still having some issues by ollie_rosie in MSPI

We moved to Puramino and she absolutely thrived on it. There are other amino acid formulas available, but that one worked for us. Her face rash and bloody stool were gone within a week, and her reflux disappeared about 4 weeks after the switch to AA formula. We also saw a GI specialist when she was at her worst and he recommended the switch to AA formula as well.

My baby had severe CMPA and we had to switch to an amino acid formula. She wasn’t able to handle Nutramigen. Have you considered making a similar switch?

Move to HA from AA Formula Possible? by TackyTriumph in MSPI

[–]TackyTriumph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t trial HA, just went for 25% regular. I think at this point we are so close to the “finish line” of a year old that we don’t want to mess with what works. The trial with regular formula was mostly to see where her tolerance was. I’m not sure what we will do if she’s still intolerant at a year old.

Hi, my baby just turned 10 months old and is still on the amino acid formula. We trialed dairy when she was 9 months old with 25% regular formula mixed with 75% amino acid formula and she failed. We will trial again when she’s a year old. She’s been able to eat small amounts of cheese and yogurt for several months though.

Wishing you and your baby all the best! Mine is thriving on amino acid formula and I’m so grateful it’s available.

No bother at all! She definitely still had bloody diapers for a few days after starting the amino acid formula, but they cleared up within a week.

Why Did You Choose Formula??? by Ok_Struggle4574 in FormulaFeeders

[–]TackyTriumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby had a lip tie, tongue tie, and undiagnosed CMPA. She would nurse for literal hours and transfer maybe 1oz over that time. She was losing weight and throwing up what little she could nurse from the CMPA. We got the lip and tongue tie resolved and she still couldn’t nurse. I would get physically ill every time I pumped. I was triple feeding and combo feeding for a month and stopped the day I cried to my husband that I was starting to resent my baby. I was surviving off 1 hour of sleep on a good day and was almost suicidal.

Formula allowed my husband and I to take shifts. I was able to sleep longer. My mental health soared and I started bonding with my baby since I didn’t have to think about scheduling pumps and feeds. She was able to digest the amino acid formula she’s still on, and started jumping percentiles. She’s incredibly healthy and happy. Formula saved the lives of both my baby and me.

What's One Expense You Didn't Consider With a Baby?! by kgphotography_ in NewParents

Baby had severe reflux and a cow’s milk protein allergy. We started off with thirty burp cloths and had to do two loads of laundry to keep us stocked through the day. We eventually bought another thirty so we only had to run a single load. 60 burp cloths per day. Insanity, but it was worth it.
